How to handle invites to dinner after Sunday meeting?
by FadeToBlack ini have not been to a meeting for over a year.
yesterday, when my wife returned from the 1 day assembly, i got an invite for dinner next sunday.
i said i would think about it, to be honest, as nice as the people are, it would just be boring listening to their comments about everything jw.

If the group will be all pumped up and talk about nothing but the 'best assembly they ever heard" and are using you to count their time....then no...But if I sincerely liked the people, I'd go. -

Thanks Divergent...I'm in the US and it used to be that if there was a need they could use a brother without his being appointed. Now, I'm not so sure....
Dunedian - Yes it was with my son. It was physical and emotional- not sexual. He beat him up so bad while he was an elder, he was arrested, removed and publically reproved. I will have to share the details of my story some day. It was an ugly mess that lasted over 5 years in the courts and many, many committee meetings. I was promised at the time 'no privileges- ever again', but I have learned the hard way never to trust the organization. It's only a matter of time.

My husband and I are divorced. I have custody of my tween son. I left 3 years ago on principle. My ex, who was removed as an elder for child abuse.... has been studying with him (during phone conversations and on his weekends) and taking him in service on his visitation weekends. We have no contact with JW's other than when he is with his father. Yet, he is an unbaptized publisher. He likes dressing up and walking the neighborhoods). My ex is sucking up to be reappointed.
During the visitation this weekend, the COBE has asked to speak to my son. My ex does not know why (?). Recently my ex-contacted the COBE at the local congregation and they are arranging for my son to be picked up to go to meetings, while he is living with me. They will need to approach me before he's picked up- and I will thank them for their concern, but basically tell them to butt out. Maybe the COBE wants to talk to my son about how he needs to stand up and tell me he wants to attend....He doesn't really- he HATES our hall here.
OR....The Special Day is coming up and I have a sneaking feeling that he will be asked to be on the platform. Does anyone have any experience in these matters? I do not want him to be on the platform, with all it's 'glory' and adoration. I am trying to keep him level headed and I'm afraid this will push him the other way.
Sorry that I am all over the place.... I HATE this game of cat and mouse, with my son being the pawn...I have a few days to prepare him for whatever may come, but I'm not sure where I'm at with this.

Hello! As many of you know, my ex-husband was removed as an elder for child abuse. I was told at the time he would never be reappointed in any capacity. Yet I heard today he was appointed as an account servant. Does he have to be an MS or is it based on local needs? There are so many changes lately, it's tough to keep up. BTW I have no illusions that I was lied to....and eventually he will be reappointed. All the Best, 4thgen -

Actually, they are apostates, they just don't like that label. An apostate is someone that turns away from watchtower teachings, which is what they have done, and in a fairly significant way. Like all of us, we realize that the way the Watchtower describes apostates is not a fair representation.
It would be safe to say that they refer to themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses and the new organization JW.org as the apostates.JW.org has been the ones to change, not them.
As far as the comments on confidentiality and how it would not be possible to keep such a thing under wraps….in my day (did I just say that???) an elder or servant would keep all matters confidential. So these old timers, could continue to do the same. No different. They haven’t changed their stripes.
I would bet there are many others across the nation who are of the same view, only in smaller groups. A few weeks ago, there was a poster that got lambasted on this site because he felt that he and his family and a few others were acting as a true Christian within the realm of JW.org, but didn’t agree with the changes.
Just sayin

It's not the same religion anymore.
by punkofnice inthat was a quote from a dyed in the wool jw recently.
it was a complaint.. we all know that with 'new light(tm)' that the watchtower corporation's version of 'religion' has kept changing for a long time.
since i remember.....and i go back a long way too.
