Don't Miss the Meetings - Hebrews 10:24, 25 Re-examined
by Oubliette ini recently got an unsolicited lecture from a well-intentioned but nevertheless misguided jw friend.
the gist of it was that i needed to go to all the meetings or i would miss out on "everlasting life.".
i responded that i do not need to go to meetings to have a relationship with god.

Held my first "worldly" party last night
by Gypsy Sam ini used to have a lot of jw gatherings at my home and it's been the one thing i did miss since our fade.
although i had some nonjw contacts in my life, i always held them at arms length and never really invited them to my place.
well, i've opened up to this group over the last year about the issues with pedofiles within jw world, and the internal/external shunning policy.

I totally agree. Friends I have now are great.
Of course, it's Satan tricking us into believing the world is a nice place. The trickster.

What a question.
And of course the answer is we do not know.
So why bring it up if it's only to plant some kind of seed?
And are they hinting that god would use a man made calendar as a timetable? Just because it's 100 years from "1914"!

Bethel's Official List of UK CO's and DO's in 2006!
by TimothyT infor those who have been discussing co's and do's in the uk, i managed to dig up a photo from my archives of when i had a visit to bethel in june 2008. because i was an uber witness i just had to have my picture taken in front of the amazing printing presses in london.
also, i saw a poster which listed all of the co's and do's in the uk so i just had to have a picture of it.
i realise that the list was created in 2006, the picture was taken in 2008 and now we are in 2013, so a lot of time has past and im certain the list is totally different now, but atleast there be some names on there you will realise and remember.

Great pic. The room reminds me of Gus Fring's underground lab in Breaking Bad!

This site has been going for 13 years. Did you ever at one point fear armageddon?
by ILoveTTATT ini am just wondering about all of you who have been on this site for long.
in all of the events that have happened since 2000 (for example, september 11th), have you at any point, even you die-hard apostates, felt like "oooh sh!t... i should go back to the kh"... just to have the world survive the latest disaster?.
what was the worst event for you, in terms of saying... "did i mess up???

I'm conscious that I don't naturally "expect" a long future.
I have that too.
It's weird isn't it?
And yet, here we all are.
I told my mum (who asked me "What if it's true, what will you think then?") that I couldn't worship a god who seems intent on spreading misery piecemeal around the world.I realise that if the tsunamis in Thailand and Japan never happened, that wouldn't strengthen your faith. But they did happen. And for the people who died, I believe they are at peace, there is nothing else. But for those left behind, the pain, the anguish, the grief. Touching generations, and thousands of people. And we are overseen by a loving god?
The 9/11 attacks shook me to the core. Again, if it didn't happen, we wouldn't all be going around saying how marvellous god is because a terrorist attack didn't happen, but they did happen. And again, misery and gloom sweeps around the world."Ah yes, but that's Satan's system. And Jehovah's timetable."
Well, how does mankind ever have a chance? We have been imperfect since Adam & Eve, and now we have Satan and his demons roaming around, causing mischief. How would we know how manking would do on their own two feet? Look at what we do - medical research, cures, striving to be better. Yes, it goes wrong and we have wars and awfulness, but maybe that is because god is allowing Satan free reign?
And also, why make it so difficult to find this god?
"Because Satan has made it difficult".But if God is a god of love, and desires that no one die, you'd think he'd make it easier. No?
"People have to use their free will to choose".
But if people use their freewill in the wrong way, they are doomed to die anyway? How is that free will?
I am an athiest now. I can't square these circles anymore.
(I am typing this while Kingdom Melodies 4 plays. What the feck is wrong with me?!! Haha.)
We are on this planet for a blink. Make it the best you can. -

Why do so many exJWs promote Watchtower lies and cover-ups?
by Fernando inseveral footnotes in the nwt correctly define apostasy as "unfaithfulness".. that is spiritual unfaithfulness/adultery/fornication/prostitution/harlotry.. in scripture the jews were called (spiritual) prostitutes (37 times in ezekiel chapters 16 and 23).. they claimed a relationship with the god of abraham.. yet they lusted after other gods.. and they had frequent wanton spiritual intercourse with these gods.. to cover-up their own lewd apostasy the watctower lyingly redefines the word to mean a dissenter (against the watchtower).. anyone who dissents is labelled an apostate.. ray franz discovered their apostasy.. he dissented.. he exposed their spiritual harlotry in detail (isocf and coc).. they lyingly labelled him an apostate.. and many if not most exjws say this is all fine.. even worse, many exjws proudly wear the label.. to show their proud support of watchtower lies and cover-ups.. how sad....

Whenever I left, I realised I was responsible for my own decision to leave. I didn't want to shake someone elses faith.
So I didn't promote the 'lies', but I didn't try to deconstruct them either. I used to defend JWs on other forums. Usually posts about how awful it was that JW kids didn't celebrate Christmas, birthdays etc.
Until one post was from a non-JW who worked for a JW. And was gay. And he said that he had no problems, he found the JWs welcoming, self-depracating and not at all pushy. And that was the time I realised that it wasn't up to me to defend them.Leaving the organisation isn't like changing jobs, and I was fully aware of what I was doing. However, I wasn't prepared for the genuine emotion I had from those I was leaving behind. And that was tough. And you can say it was the 'cult' at work, but I don't believe it was. There were real friendships, and admittedly, when the crunch came to the crunch, they chose their religion. But I expected them to do that.
What am I trying to say?
I think everyone who has left has a period of uncertaintly which can last for years. I don't expect my 30 years of indoctination to vanish in the 10 since I left. And I don't think I am in a position to encourage others to leave, knowing the emotional trauma that will be inflicted on the person. It's like when you read stories about people who smoke or are obese and continue smoking/eating, even when their doctor has told them they will die otherwise. And they keep on doing it. Because the choice to quit has to be from the person doing the quitting. It can't be forced. No amount of facts and figures will convince someone to quit unless they really want to.
And isn't it better to live the new life rather than looking back? -

Topics not often discussed now
by jdubsnub inwhen i was a kid in the early 90's there always seemed to be a mention of how demons posessing people or how if you saw a demon or something supernatural occuring mearly calling jehovah's name would rid you of the situation.
rarely now a days do you hear anything of the sort.
that got me to thinking, what are some other topics the society has backed off of?

Did anyone enjoy singing the Kingdom Melodies?
by Kimmee indid anyone actually enjoy singing the kingdom melodies at the hall?
some of them were fun to sing, some of them were corny.
my brother use to sing them loud but without any sound coming out of his mouth.

I loved the Kingdom songs. Really.
"Responding to God's Love" - I loved the melody, and still do.
"Keep Your Eyes on the Prize" was another favourite.
Apparently when I was born my mum sang "Jehovah Is My Shepherd"
I still play the Kingdom Melodies on my computer, it helps me do the housework!
