Piph, I did exactly that. I was in the Spanish congregation. I got married I think because we felt all we had was eachother. We felt the same way about the JW's, we both wanted out so it somehow led to our going out together and eventually getting married. Right after our marriage, we "moved" to the English congregation, but never really went. We tapered off our attendance little by little. The Spanish elders eventually caught on and came to visit us but after a few visits realized it was futile. Now we're divorced and I'm LIVING IN SIN with a worldy man whom I completely adore. Long Live Freedom. Good luck, I hope you break free successfully.

How many want out?
by ignored_one inhow many jws are there currently in the wt who want out but are held back by things they feel they can't control?
i hear posters say that if they're still jws then they must believe it.
what about the people whose whole family are jws and don't have any outside friends to turn to or for whatever reason are relying on their jw family for financial help and know that if they expressed doubts they would be cut off no questions asked.

I hated preaching, mostly because I'm very shy...but the memory that stands out the most in my mind is when I was paired up with my best friends mom. We went to this door and the man was a religious fanatic. I don't remember what religion he practiced but suffice it to say, he called the lady I was with a whore, saying she was a pagan, the devil's bride - all because she was wearing makeup. Then he grabbed me by the shoulders and started shaking me and said something like..."but you're still young and innocent, you can still be saved let me teach you the real way of the lord...." Keep in mind I was a young teenager. My preaching partner was struggling with him to make him let me go. She was really rattled. It's actually funny now when I look back at the situation.

My "best friend" growing up in the congregation was the daughter of an elder. This made her popular among people our age, and it also meant I got the inside scoop on everything. She somehow seemed to know everything that was going on, and sometimes actually went through her dad's papers to know more, and of course she had a really big mouth.......

What is the best thing and worst thing about being a JW?
by micheal ini would say the best thing is when one has just started studying and coming to meetings for the first time they are treated like gold.
but things really start to detiroriate quickly from there.
the worst thing is the control.

The best thing about being a Jehovah Witness is that when you leave, your eyes are opened and you realize all religion is a bunch of bull.
The worst thing is the deception and mind control they use to keep their "sheep" in check.

Thanks for the grand welcome Gopher. It actually feels good to be able to speak about this with people who understand, and know what it's like to go through this hell. It took a while after I left to get all that brainwashing out of my system. Believe it or not, it took me a while to accept that yes, I'm actually going to die one day. I grew up believing I would survive armageddon. What a lie, what deception....and all those fools who actually believe this. I wish there was some way of exposing them for the scum they are.

What Made You Leave The "Truth"? Was It False Prophecy, People, Blood, etc.
by minimus injw's like to believe that people who leave the organization do it for selfish reasons or due to impatience and not "waiting on jehovah".
there's a variety of reasons for persons making the decision and saying, "that's it!
i'm not doing this anymore".

It started with the double standards I saw at the hall. One guy got censored for going to a club with his friends while an elder who got caught committing adultery (by the way, he didn't confess, he was totally unrepentant) only got a slap on the wrist and his priviledges removed. Then it was the issue of money. All those donations...really cheap labour from the people at bethel.....it's all a business. Then I began thinking about all their teachings, from a neutral standpoint. Not thinking from the perspective of a Jehovah Witness, thinking rationally, I realized how absurd the whole thing is. They are among the pettiest group of people I've ever had the disadvantage of knowing.

I think I'm about to become a victim of an "intervention"
by cruzanheart ini just got a phone call from someone i used to know, oh, about 25 years ago.
she and her cousin and i hung out together as single pioneers -- they got married, i got married, we lost touch.
well, turns out she now goes to the same congregation as one of the witnesses who works at my law firm -- the same one who, months ago when i started telling people i was no longer one of jehovah's witnesses, told me i could believe what i want but "don't make trouble for the rest of us" -- and evidently the two ladies got to talking and my co-worker gave her my phone number at home.

Oh boy, I feel for you girl. My mom was actually a victim of an intervention lately. Can you believe that there are some JW's that periodically drive in front of my parents house and slow down to spy on them? I know this sounds paranoid but I've actually seen some of them do it. We've left the "truth" a few years ago. I've since had a child and my mom thought it would be cool to celebrate Halloween for the first time ever for my daughter. She actually put a paper Witch on the door and I carved a pumpkin and put it on the front steps. I remember as a child I was jealous of all those kids who seemed to be having tons of fun in their costumes while I just sat at my dark window and watched. Anyway, someone saw all these decorations and reported it to an elder. Two days later the elder showed up at my mom's front door and began lecturing her. I've never been more proud of my mother. She sent him packing and he hasn't bothered her since. My advice, don't let them get a word in edgewise. Cut them off at the pass and tell them to leave you alone, even if you have to use an aggressive tone. Sometimes that's the only thing that works. Hope it goes well.

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting a message on this site. I was baptized at the age of 16. Definitely too young. I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I just wanted to be like all the other kids my age. I felt as if being baptized was my ticket to praise and approval from everyone. These people condemn Catholics for baptizing infants...they're just as bad. Young kids do what they think is expected of them, and are as blind as infants in this case.
