I can remember the "good old days" of food service at the conventions. The lucky volunteers got to leave the morning session early, though they did pay for that privelege by having to show up way before everyone else did. I made the coffee.

The "simplification" (pronounced "stupidity") came after I was fired. What a wonderful arrangement from Jehovah! Listen to what was in last month's Watchtower, and what will be in another Watchtower as soon as the Convention season is over, on an empty stomach. I know I'm always at my best when I'm hungry.

Back when I was in Jehovah's Food Service (tm) they piped the program into the kitchen area so we wouldn't miss out. That's how I learned to ignore whatever I hear on a loudspeaker and why I will probably die from a natural disaster. Thanks, JW's! Then again, I was one of the ones who left my seat during that last skit of the morning session, the one where the teenager is being beaten with the old Aid book for having a KISS cd, and felt cool because the 6,000 people not paying attention were looking at me with envy for having an excuse to get up and leave.

Next "simplification": bathrooms will be locked and guarded during sessions by attendants holding "wait for Jehovah!" signs.

This sounds like a challenge for the big wigs in Bethel who continuously try to stream-line (no pun intended) the running of the conventions. People who need to go to the bathroom during the program miss out on valuable "food" but more importantly, disrupt others.

There are actually incontinence devices on the market that enable people to take care of bodily functions whilst going about their daily routines without needing to go to the bathroom. I will spare you the details, but I'm sure this would ensure all attendees got to sit "attentively" during the program and did not "miss" a single thing.

So, brothers, ensure you keep those bathrooms locked until the program's finished. Then, sit back, and watch the mad rush for the exit!!

  • association is curtailed to the point where people only get invited to your home for dinner is if it is an elder and the husband is sucking up so he can be appointed; it is rare to see "widows and orphans" included in social activities in the congregation
  • oh this is just SO TRUE.

In my mind, newbie daniel-p sums it up with the following quote.

And then of course, there is all the evidence of how the organization is ever more reactionary in their policies. If it is God's spirit annointed organization, why do we have to be reactive? Woulnd't we have special foresight, and impliment proactive policy?

Their policy is reactionary because they don't have foresight. They are not what they claim and can only take corrective measures once they discover that there are problems. AKA: damage control.

For some reason, it all went to hell in the 90's.

    How true.

Everything changed after Freddie died. Regardless of how absolutely kooky he was, there was something about him that gave the whole thing cohesiveness and maybe even some warmth, if for no other reason than the fact that he really believed it so damn much! There isn't anybody on the GB now who has anything remotely resembling Freddie's imaginative powers, it's just a group of dry old businessmen flying the organization on autopilot, with the crustiest and meanest among them calling the shots. The publications nowadays are just re-hashed Freddie-ology but lacking the same punch, mixed with endless, repetitive counsel and pleas for loyalty. The (relatively speaking) good ol' days of JWism are lonnnnnggg gone.

I have no frame of reference other than what is discussed on JWD since I left over 45 years ago and haven't returned to the vomit. I did pass by a KH in Neah Bay, Wa. last weekend and was shocked to see it still had windows that weren't boarded over. The one where I live and all others I've seen for decades have no windows, even the one in down town Haifa, Isreal.

Must be an aberrant bunch out on the penninsula!

It is the WTBTS Lady Lee - not you- it started when the lawyers took charge - and you should know that lawyers are IMHO - the lowest of the low - a necessary evil in a democracy though Japan is a democracy and has 8 times less lawyers per person than the US
