Kent: Prove your not an idiot.
Vienna: Yes I believe the Bereans were right, but they tested Paul without attacking him. They were humble to accept what he was saying in light of the Scriptures. They never resorted to pointing out every single mistake he ever made, but concentrated on the teaching at hand.
Jehovah always had true servants since the 1st century. We don't know all of their names, but he had some.

I really don't get it.
Doesn't being a JW mean freedom from thinking for oneself? I mean, wasn't it nice not to have to worry our pretty little heads about thinking when we could turn that over to the GB and let them do it all for us?
One of the distinguishing characteristics of any cult is a specialzed jargon that sets them apart from all the "others" in which they are forced to conduct their lives. This jargon tends to enhance their feeling of superiority and to mark their differences.
Think of the special phrases of dub-dumb:
World empire of false religion.
Babylon the Great.
A people for his name.
A god with a name.
Faithful and discrete slave.
And on and on and on...so frequently you don't even hear it any more. It's just like being a fish and not noticing the water. I'm sure you all could think of many, many more stock phrases.

GodRules:
Who were God's true servants in 1295? In 1435? In 1699? In 1745? In 1801? Now don't tell me you don't know, but you know they were there.
You'd make a helluva defense attorney. "Your honor, we have witnesses that my client didn't commit this horrible crime. We don't know who they are. But we know they're there. So my client should be set free."
I say I have an angel in my pocket right now. You can't see her. Or hear her. But she's there. And she says you're fulla shit.

Prisca,
The term "you think like a JW" is just a specific term for "you let someone else think for you". All people who are victims of mind control are first convinced that they do not have the capability to think for themselves. Then the people that told them they do not have that ability end up doing all the thinking for them. It leaves the a
warm cozy feeling inside the person that has given up their right to think for themselves in that someone else can do a better job making up their mind so they can spend the rest of their life not having to stress themselves by having to think. Trusting someone else who is bigger and more powerful than you to make your decisions for you is an instinctive trait. As a child you trust that your parents who are bigger and stronger than you will make all the right decisions for you. This parental guidance is sometimes replaced in later years by cults and or governments that people put their trust in cuz they are bigger and stronger like your parents were.
The Nazis trusted Hitler to make their country stronger and more economically stable. At the time Hitler came to power Germany was still suffering from the fallout of the first world war and the people were in need of a strong leader to get them out of their situation. He did that for them and they bought into everything he said. We all know how that came out. It is the only two times in history that I have seen kids being told to turn their parents in for wrong doings that do not go along with the collective thought of the leaders, that is the Nazis and the JW's. They are very similar in that respect as well as others. Much like the Nazis, the JW's rely on their religious leaders to get them out of what they have been told is a wicked system of things. Once people are convinced that they are in a bad state of affairs the person that convinced them of that has an easy task in convincing them that they, and they alone are the only ones that can get them out of such a troubled position. In this line of thought the philosopher Nietzsche said it best when it comes to what it is that keeps christians clinging to the every word of the bible and their religious leaders, He says: "The Christian resolve to find the world evil and ugly has made the world evil and ugly."
Once you have people convinced to let someone else do their thinking for them then every subject that comes up has a programed response based on the thinking of the one who controls the minds of the mindless. JW thinking is just another form of non thinking people reiterating the thoughts of the small group of controlling thinkers
that think for them. In the JW case they have prepackaged some general lines of thought and passed them on to their followers so they will know exactly what to think and say in any given situation. Even if the controlling thinkers change their thinking the non thinkers adjusts their own thinking to match the many changes of the head thinkers. It is not what they think that is important but only that they are in charge of the thinking and that's good enough for the non thinkers.
Telling them they will indeed loose their life if they think outside the package keeps most of them in line. If one of their followers has a thought of their own and tries to express that thought they are quickly convinced that their own original thought was not their own but that of Satan the boogie demon. This thinking inside the package theory is also reinforced by telling the non thinker that not only will they loose their life but their moms and dads and brothers and sisters and life long friends will then turn against them if that one single boogie demon thought gets out. It is a perfect tool for keeping all the sheep in line. Death and abandonment, two key factors in the expression of love by the wonderful and fun god Jah.
These ar just a few of my own thoughts unbiased by anyone else's thoughts but my own.
Hey Prisca, I heard you don't like Americans, is that true?
Dave
Hello, Prisca, my friend. It's been a while. Good seeing your 'face' again!
The above phrase has been bandied about in the past and present, often as a form of insult when the poster disagrees with something another poster has said.
And here I thought we were friends!! You're talking about me, aren't you, cause I sure have said it, thought it, wrote it. Shoot, on this board I can't seem to help it. They are EVERYWHERE!
What does it mean? I haven't read anyone else's thoughts so maybe I'm being redundant, but here's my answer, to be amended when I think of more...
It means parroting 'acceptable' viewpoints the writer thinks will keep them in good standing with the "in" crowd.
It means saying the least offensive thing even if you REALLY think something else.
It means being a sellout...
... a chump...
... a phony...
... someone whose words are not to be believed since you, the reader, don't really get the feeling that they, the writer, honestly believes what they are telling you.
The subject matter doesn't matter, of course. It doesn't have to be about JWs, the bible or even religion. Basically, "thinking like a JW" means not thinking for oneself, but letting someone else to it for you. I'd rather not hear or read or otherwise waste my time with people who think like JWs, but that's me.
Don't make yourself so scarce, okay?
peace,
todd

I have enjoyed a number of your posts.
I agree that the Jehovah's Witness set up has many paroles with the Nazis, not least of which is their belief that the ‘final solution’ is to kill off all but a chosen few. I once told my brother, who is an elder, that what the Jehovah's Witnesses look forward to, make Hitler’s efforts look like a playground fight.
He doesn’t speak to me anymore! I wonder why?
Unlike other people the Witnesses cannot change their views on a subject as new evidence comes to light. They have to tow the party line. People may argue and disagree then alter their views. The Jehovah's Witness is simply not free to do this. It is called, running ahead, rebellion and at worse apostasy.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.
We have seen that being a JW affects all facets of our lives, and probably the hardest to change is our thinking. It can stay with us for a far while, even decades for some people.
Just to answer Seven's question:
I like Americans, and I've been to America - it's a beautiful country!
