After years on the internet, I have yet to come up with a pornographic site, simply because it's not what I am looking at.

Now, take my older son!!!!!! Simply because he has so many little brothers and sisters I have parental controls even on his internet site because I have 'stumbled across' what he has been looking at. I'm afraid even 20 year olds can believe that their parents are so stupid that they can't find out what anyone has been doing on the net. So, when we saw what he had been looking it, (which to be honest was soft porn, but then who wants pictures of scary big greased boobs on their computer anyway?) but we decided he needed 'controlling'. Afterall, it's MY computer!

So what I'm saying, is you'll find porn, if you're looking for it and if you go into chat rooms and are daft enough, or young enough, to take everything at face value then you'll probably stumble on some predator or another.

The scare tactics of the WTBTS little 'talks' on thursday evenings, will probably encourage more young ones to go onto sites that are a little dodgy and when they've done that they'll start looking for the kind of real information that the WTBTS don't want them to have.

I've said this before, but I only found JWD because my mum warned me explicitly after a similar thursday meeting to NEVER go onto JW sites. I immeadiately did just that when I go home and then spent about 2-3 months on the net taking in everything about JWs that I could find. I never looked back. It was the best warning the WTBTS could have ever given out. It certainly freed me and my family completely from them.

I agree, Ive had a couple of pop ups, very tame. My son was also sent a site, that I looked on, that was also very tame. Now I know you could get it if you wanted it, and there is a real danger for children and preditors. But the WTs real worry and problem are the apostate sites, they just want parents to become so neurotic about the internet that they are not allowed on it at all.

When I mentioned to my sister about using the internet she was shocked and actually said " Dont let the elders know your using it" what !!!!!!!!!!

So the WT would say be careful but what they mean is dont use it and many JWs especially older ppl, think they shouldnt so dont.

I think that what the WTS may be doing is trying to demonize the Internet so much, that the parents to avoid the danger for their children will eventually (wishful thinking) get rid of the internet altogether, but this is 2005 and the world has changed quite a bit since the 50's which is where the GB mentality is stuck, and the use of the internet is more of a need than a luxury, so no it isn't going away!

I also think that eventually the WTS if it survives another 20 years, will be composed of the old timers, the ignorant and uninformed, but most of this generation of children will be gone!!!! So lurking parents, open your eyes, and get ready, don't let those kids get baptized because they will just get disfellowshipped eventually, and it will be so much worse for them. Boy am I glad I found all this out, before my two kids got baptized!

How can the WT erase natural curiosity from the human soul? At my church there is a door with a huge sign that reads, "DO NOT ENTER". I sat outside that door one day and saw three people open the door to check out the furnace room. Human nature, natural curiosity. Keep it up, Watchtower. Every warning means a jump in JWD membership.

AuldSaul, that would make a beautiful tract, and so true!

40,000 hours of preaching to make one disciple, and then another 1.03425 seconds to take 'em away.

Impeccable logic,i also agree about the porn threat i never see it unless i willfully open a suspicious link. It's like the magazine rack at the checkout you don't have to buy playboy.

Total Watchtower...tell a few obvious and real truths some of the time (I once read 20%...probably here, but I can't remember who said it...sorry) and then people will assume you are telling the truth all the time. Yes, there is some danger on the internet. Chat rooms can be a worry and, yes, you can find porn if you look for it, but I don't buy that those things are the WTS first priority at all....they want to control what their people read and think and that's harder to do if the R & F is online looking up whatever they want to.

We have had several visits here at JWD from JW's (supposedly) looking for approved JW material. Actually the Tower would be smart to provide more of this, but they won't because they can't control who looks at it and what they might think. Its hard to be a high-control cult in the information age.

Are the WTS going to stop you going to newstands, newsagents, libraries, second hand bookshops, cable and satelite TV even mobile phones these days? There is porn to be had at any of them if you want it and are prepared to look for it. This is just an obvious front to stop the innocents from finding the truth of the WBTS.

Remember when they said that the TV was Satans Eye? How many JWs don't have a TV? That FDS warning sure worked well.

Let's hope this one is as just as effective.

The Circuit Assembly and the Service Meeting discussed that apostate sites and others for JWs were used by non-JWs to date non-married JW sisters and also by sexual predators.

And just WHY would a non-JW go looking for single JW women? These people can find takers for their sexual prefrences without looking into JW or ex-JW sites......can they not? Do predators have a special fondness for single JW women?

Also....they should have mentioned that Kingdom Halls are used by some JW's ( not non-JW's) to carry out their predator fantasies. Perhaps witnesses should only go to the hall when it's absolutely neccesary as they've recommended witnesses to do with the internet.
