Sorry Dave, he was betting me the JWD FunBux. I might be persuaded to split 'em with Kid-A if he gives a straight answer, though I think Kid-A knew how to play this game, and was holding out on us

If there was absolute proof that he existed and all the [contradictory?] stories about him were true.

To me that's the big question indeed -- with emphasis on contradictory.

To have it all true not one but at least a half-dozen of Jesuses would be needed.

Now the conversation between them might be interesting. But I'm afraid we have to invent it.

If EVERYTHING in the NT were verifiable, including the healing, raising from the dead, walking on water and shyte, would you be happy?

But LT and Gumby....I already AM happy and completely self-actualized!!! But to be more direct, I would say no. It would not make me happy, I would be completely indifferent!!

Raising from the dead? Walking on water, hell, I can see all that in Las Vegas if I want !!!

And LT, may I remind you, you recently applied as a brown boy apostle and were accepted into the fold as the apostle Inver-John....now what would our leader EliJah

have to say about you paying your respects to this "other" messiah???? LOL

    Didier:
You remind me of a funny storry.

Occasionally we have patients presenting at our Psychiatric Unit with a Jesus complex. One time we had two in at the same time. They refused to speak to each other - ROFL.

    Kid-A:
Thanks for the straight[-ish] answer. The [cyber-]cheque is on the [cyber-]post

It would make ya look twice, though, wouldn't it?

Are the seeming contradictions in the OT and NT only that or are they paradoxical formulations that address different cultures over vastly different time periods?

Whatever the individual's evaluation of the philosophy adumbrated by Jesus, He stimulated a considerable elan that led to billions of converts over time.

    Gumbo,

    I answered your question...

Im tight wit Jebus, that'd be coo.
Translation: Yeah, Jesus was an alright guy so I'd be happy if he was for real.

I think I would never follow christianity ever again, even if Jesus were shown to be real person [which I have come to doubt] for the very reason that he seems like just another cult leader to me now....

now if you could prove God existed, then I would just try to live my life out as best I could and expect the worst as the bible god does seem completely insane to me and without morals. someone I could not trust to save me as he claims. [see israel's walk through the wilderness after being freed from egypt - where simple requests for things like food and water were met with the slaying of thousands]

Now I know how the believers feel when ya try and get a staight answer from a damn spiritual apostate.

Yo', Gumbetter! You owe me a hundred bucks!

    I said last night:

I'm not sure I could blithely dismiss a dude that could raise the dead, float off into the sky, and all that. If there was absolute proof that he existed and all the [contradictory?] stories about him were true, I'd have to reevaluate my position.

Dave....that ain't no answer ye bastard! Re-evaluate? That could mean you could still go to the dark side like ya are now fer cripes sake!

IP-SEC......Like LT said....the bet was between him and I and I already paid him .......and the bastard went out and bought crack with the money........sickboy he is

Kid-A.....I hope yer happy now that you've just commited the unforgivable sin and denied the spirit. Don't expect me to be sendin ya ice-water when you get to your REAL home.

It always amuses me when I hear or read someone saying they would put Jesus on the hot seat: “If I meet Jesus, I’m going to tell him this or that” or , to paraphrase Ricky Ricardo (Lucy’s husband), “Jesus, you’ve got some ‘splainin’ to do.” Riiiiight…If his beloved Apostle John fainted at the sight of the glorified Christ, how is anyone else going to handle it? Some people don’t grasp what they would be dealing with. Jesus wouldn’t appear as some raggedy guy living on the streets, nor would he appear as the gentle shepherd holding a little lamb under his arm; he’d be in full regal-judicial-military glory accompanied by multitudes of angels. No non-believer is going to “tell” him anything. Those who remain conscious are either going to be overcome with sorrow or stand there with their mouths gaping open from shock and awe. This is so far above meeting the President of the US, the Prime Minister, the Queen of England, or any other human that it isn’t imaginable.
And maybe Jesus would be gracious enough, with a wave of his hand, to show us a replay of history--not just the history of man, but even our own personal histories--with all the missing pieces filled in, all the ramifications of everything revealed, along with all the things that happened in the spiritual realm in conjunction with human history. All the paradoxes would finally be explained; all the seeming contradictions resolved. We would see how things became misinterpreted.
Finally, if you’re speculating on what would happen IF the NT were true, remember that Paul wrote that EVERY knee would bow and EVERY tongue would confess that Jesus is Lord. So, in the end, Jesus would get the honor due him from everyone, regardless of how they thought or felt in this life, just before some would be sent into eternal exile.
