AMEN REVFRANK!!!! and the best part of your analysis is that its not even the tip of the iceberg....

there are many more examples of where the WT likes to put itself in a higher standard then the bible, (depending on which translation you use cause according to a JW my "bible has been translated incorrectly")

"cult" is one of those words requiring definition before every discussion. Certainly what concerns most folks is the degree of influence men (or women) have over others in an organized group setting and whether that influence is ethically defensible. The WT most certainly does not suggest anyone attempt to communicate with Jesus or any spirit for direction nor do they instruct members to read and interpret the writings in the Bible on their own, rather they insist that members of their organization refer to the writings of the leaders, past and present, of the WT's governing elect. This reveals a greater degree of influence than most Mainstream Christian churches. The Catholic Church most certainly was a harmful cult and only recently has it's leadership relaxed it's grip on their member's private lives. It has a way to go before the lable "cult" can not be applied to them. The WT has yet to see the value of, in fact they are threatened by, individuality and personal dignity.

The only lie in this thread is that Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult.

Sorry, JW's *are* a cult! They pass the majority of all cult tests. Their actions and methods are traditional cult methods, and they resemble some of the best known cults today, i.e. Mormans, Scientologists.

For 23 years I thought I was in the true religion. Now I have no doubt that for all that time I was in a cult. Looking at things objectively, that is the only reasonable conclusion I can come to. When the elders visited me last week, they tried to reason with me from the wt publications, not the Bible. If anyone questions anything, they are advised to look it up in the watchtower or other publications. The elders act according to society guidelines, all man made rules. How can it be anything other than a cult?

The JWs are a cult for sure: they are under strict information control, their leaders insult their intelligence constantly with silly absurd arguments that they must accept while claiming that they are the only ones in the world approved by god, they are intimidated with the fear of a savage unforgiving god, and they demonise the whole world outside their org.

    True!

The WTS has told the JWs that NOBODY can interpret OR understand scripture other than THEM, and that they must have copious amounts of publications to explain their everchanging views.

They also NEED "Mother" , this organization, to gain salvation. (Where does the bible explain this?) Somehow their "leader" has sadly disappeared into the background and the WTS writing department has elevated themselves into the position of "savior".

Anyone who can read "Lifton's Criteria" can readily see just what a CULT really is.......and the WTS.....IS.

    "

If anyone questions anything, they are advised to look it up in the watchtower or other publications."

....not the bible, its interesting that they go straight to themselves for the answers.....i'm pretty sure the bible says something about relying on God and not on man cause man isnt perfect (i think thats also a statement made by the WT isnt it?)

The 2006 Yeartext: "We must obey God as ruler rather than men." -Acts 5:29.

Perhaps JWD can take this as next year's yeartext as well.

    My vote is for cult

    Example

Imagine the gb decided that eating oranges was a sin. A watchtower article would come out twisting scripture to suit. Next, time would be put aside at meetings to discuss the evils of orange eating. Then a process of identifying the apostates who still eat oranges would be put in place.

Family members and friends would be encouraged to tell the elders if "loved" ones continue in this sick practice.

Elders visit warning that this sinner will be not be spoken to by anyone except those in the mire(the world) if they continue returning dog like to their vomit(sinning).

    Person removed

10 yrs later an article comes out saying it was FIGURATIVE oranges after all and followers are now to eat them.

Followers don't complain about the flip flop, they rejoice in the new light of understanding

    That's a cult
