TS, better postpone it until the age of 75 if not 80. Age 60 is far too young.
Tet, you have a wacky, wacky sense of humor. I don't think drugs should be illegal. Regulated, but not with any profit in mind, maybe. It would take the lucrative sales of it out of the hands of greedy, ruthless people. I'm all for that. I believe the drug problems in the modern world are far more widespread and destructive than they were when drugs were legal.
They tried prohibition of alcohol. It didn't work. But it sure showed greedy lawmakers and organized crime how lucrative it can be to deal in addictive substances.
remember suffering is not nesessary a bad thing.... we learn from our suffering and become a better person. There is plenty of suffering that comes from uncontrollable factors and sources. We can stand to do away with government that deliberately causes suffering for some, so that the elite benefit. I'd say that adversity teaches great lessons, rather than just suffering teaches us great lessons. We should all have challenges and problems to solve. We don't have to have greedy, evil governors to have challenges in life.
hmmmmm.......interesting to contemplate.......maybe separate people into categories for the area in which they would dwell...ie: all child molesters and other sex offenders would live somewhere together, separate from the rest of society......the same goes for murderers........abusers......thieves.........drug abusers........alcoholics........racists.........war-mongers........That would settle a lot of the world's problems right away.
Well now.....that's part of what I'd do.

I've thought about this. We could find a remote island or islands, surrounded by shark infested waters and send them all there. Preferrably the island chain would be in the path of psunamis. Once we got the technology for it, we could send these demons, masquerade as humans, to live on their own planet.

There ya go, FHN! And movin' right along, I'd have all the world's professions (ie: doctors/nurses/other medical professionals and medical researchers, along with medical researchers, scientists, botanists, biologists, etc.) congregated together to give the curing of all known disorders/diseases a better shot. Lawyers and judges would be extinct professions, because all lawsuits would be dismissed and duking it out would be re-instated as an acceptable way to deal with hostile disagreements. High finance would be done away with, because all the world's wealth would be redistributed equitably. I'm sure someone will have ways to improve on these thoughts.

After I gain power, Priority Number One:
Establish a well funded research facilty that exclusively explores potential therapies
that are likely to be unprofitable. Anyone who sabotages this research , by secret alliance
with drug companies will be sent to prison. Result: Cancer and other diseases will be
largely cured in ten years.
Priority Number Two: Energy independence. Research will be focused on two areas:
Getting cheap renewable power to the grid - and finding a non-oil way to run cars.
A prize of $20,000,000 tax free will be given to anyone who invents a superior battery
capable of extreme range and rapid recharge. Other research projects will pursue
any reported invention in which the inventor died mysteriously after announcing a
breakthrough ( the Karen Silkwood factor). Result: end of the oil dominated economy
and associated terrorism.
Priority Three: End human aging - and stop pension/Social Security problems thereby.
metatron ( that's for starters)
...heads would roll...
Then I'd go mind my own business...

Good ideas, Met and Frannie.
I'd take anything that a few elite are using to accumulate vast wealth, and take it out of the for-profit sector. So oil, fuel, medical treatments and medications would be included. I would legalize or decriminalize anything that organized crime profits from. I would provide incentives for people to design cars that are not only safe, but run cheaply. There would also be incentives for research that ultimately lead to cures for disease, especially cancer and aids. I feel that the answer doesn't always lie in painful, horrendous chemotherapies. It may someday come down to nutrition and herbal remedies.
I'd revamp the mental health care of the entire planet. Every person would have access to it and it would actually be efficient and work.
My idea would be that it takes a village to raise a child. And children would be cherished and looked after. In no way would they be neglected.
Children would be taught life skills and planning from a young age. They would be taught about making good decisions and about the consequences of those decisions, good and bad. They would be encouraged to learn to control themselves, rather than being beaten, bullied or scared into submission.
I would not allow big, organized religion to terrorize and instill fear, with a view of controlling the masses. Spirituality would be allowed only in the healthiest ways. People would be encouraged to make good decisions and practice sensible self control, based on the benefits to individuals and humankind in general. Like I said earlier, I would educate everyone on the harm of being judgmental. There would be loving, but firm pressure from everyone and everywhere, not to be judgmental.
The work ethic would be healthier, like in some European countries. People would work less hours and take siestas and time to dance and sing, to break up their work days. People would work only 4 days a week. Fathers and mothers would spend a lot more time with their children.
Okay, in my world, every weekend (they last four days) will be a celebration. And since all citizens will enjoy prosperity, so all can enjoy fabulous weekends! You can relax, if you want to, all weekend. Bills will not be a worry.
