I think a gathering with your family members is a wonderful idea. i've never liked funerals myself...very depressing. but the idea of sitting around with loved ones, remembering happy moments, and looking at photos together sounds like a very happy and peaceful way of remembering loved ones who have passed. stay strong. there are many people here who care for you.

I agree with hurbert, have a private service with your brothers.
I have decided when I get together with my brothers we will make some special time to deal with this loss. (not sure when that will be but like you said it can be anytime)

I am sorry for how your Mother treated you and your siblings. It seems that when someone dies that it brings out the best and worst in people around us.
When my grandfather died, he was cremated. My grandmother went off and dumped his ashes into the ocean one day...(and it was her right to do this)..but I would have liked to be there.
I was sad there was no real place to visit.
Maybe you could get one of those kits that they have in home improvement places to make your own customized stepping stones/garden markers. You could make it as your own personal memorial to your Sister.
Again, I am sorry for your loss and for your poor treatment.

I'm very sorry LadyLee. It's tough enough to lose a family member but to have all of this emotional drama as well must be overwhelming.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I agree with many here. Please have a memorial service with your siblings and their families. Make it something that you can reflect on as the years go by and remember the emotions of the event.
I've missed an opportunity like this once before and I swear I'll not do it again.
I'm proud of you for standing strong and handling everything as well as you are.

I guess somewhere inside of her I expect to find a real person with a heart.
Chris said he believes there is no good in some people. Perhaps he's right. I always thought seemingly heartless people had a soft spot in them and that if you could say or do the right thing, you could find it. Perhaps this isn't true. Maybe your mother is missing something LL.
If a person could just know what makes some people tick and do what they do...it might ease the pain. It's scary to think some people have no feelings.
