Although its none of my business...

Is your husband overweight? I used to snore when I was overweight. Now I only snore when I have a really bad cold..

Both of my parents gained a lot of weight and their quiet snuffling turned into house shaking snoring.

As I said earlier in this thread, my husband snores when he is sick or super tired....its horrible.

I get really grumpy if I haven't slept well....so if he is snoring I will usually go sleep on the couch or kick him out of bed....LOL!

I would go with the nose strips.

Also you might want to tape his snoring one night, he might not realize how loud he snores.

I also used to have the rule that when I go to bed, wifey must come to bed as well. However after hearing myself snore, I realized that my snoring was cruel and inhumane treatment.

    Vitty,
Breathe Right Strips might be just what you need (they are certainly cheaper), but here is the info you asked about. The CPAP machine requires a doctor's prescription. CPAP is short for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. When I sleep, my jaw relaxes too much and "slides" down and blocks my airway. The pressure from the machine prevents that from happening and keeps my airway open, thus no snoring. The machine has a hose with a mask on it that fits over the patient's nose. My honey calls me Mr. Snufalufagus (from Sesame Street) when I put it on. It's very comfortable, but does take some getting used to.

I hope this helps. I LOVE my machine and can't get a good night's sleep without it.

From the day Mr Scully and I got married, up until about 5 years ago, I endured him snoring so loud that it probably damaged my hearing. The snoring caused sleepless nights regularly, and I'd have to leave the bedroom, shut the door, pack a blanket at the bottom of the door to muffle the sound and go sleep on the sofa. It was better if I went to bed first and fell asleep before he came to bed.

I've been working night shift for the last several years - so when I'm home sleeping during the day, he's off to work. Also, he had the doctor send him for a sleep analysis where he was diagnosed with sleep apnea. He uses a CPAP machine that keeps the airway open when he sleeps and eliminates snoring. YES eliminates the snoring!! The machine makes a bit of noise too, but it's tolerable most times. If I'm having a problem falling asleep and the machine noise is bothering me, I just pop in my ear plugs or start a relaxation CD and I'm able to fall asleep.

I'm considering trying melatonin to help me fall asleep on those occasions when I still have trouble falling asleep.

I snore too, and loudly I hear, so don't have much freedom of speech. I usually get up, take some Ibuprofen, grab a Scotch, and get online for awhile, hoping he will get quieter.

I have resorted to grabbing a big comforter and sleeping on the couch when his snoring gets too bad. If I get to sleep first, it's good, but if I don't, it can be a disaster.

Nice to know you're not the only one, eh?

I vote with the folks who recommend a sleep study and cpap machine. I got mine nine years ago and would strangle anybody who tries to take it away!
