If you have the December 22, 2005 Awake! you will notice that the circulation is 22,842,000.

I received the January monthly issue of the Awake! yesterday, and noticed that the circulation jumped to 32,412,000

Can it really be that they are cutting back to save money?

Well, two lots of Awake! magazines a month would have a circulation of 45,684,000.

With just one issue at a circulation of 32,412,000, this means there are 13,272,000 fewer magazines being printed.

But I find it odd that they would increase the circulation?

I think maybe they ran out of ideas for articles. The monthly edition still has 32 pages.

    Placements. It's all about placements.

Back when I used to go out in service, I would push the Awake heavily and only mention "its companion, The Watchtower." A lot of times I would not even show the WT cover, just slide it a little from behind the Awake to show the hh that they were getting two mags.

But if you were to ask anyone here, I bet most would say that they pushed the Awake more often than the WT. Hence the reason probably for the increase in printing.

Not only are the printing fewer magazines in total, but there is much less work when you don't have to set up another issue. As you said, truthseeker, perhaps its all they can do to come up with ideas for one magazine per month.

WELL I SUPPOSE IF THE PUBLISHERS HAVE ALL MONTH TO PLACE THE AWAKE INSTEAD OF A TWO WEEK EDITION, THEY WOULD NEED MORE TO BE PRINTED SO AS TO LAST TIL THE END OF THE MONTH. BUT NOTICE THE PRINTING DIDN'T DOUBLE SO AS TO BE THE SAME AS BEFORE.

IN OUR AREA THERE ARE MANY MORE NEW HOSPITALS, LAUNDRAMATS, ETC. THAT NEED TO BE SUPPLIED SO THAT MIGHT FIGURE IN TOO.

I recall many people I met in the ministry would only read the Awake because it was less preachy. Now that they're only printing one a month and they've changed the format, their numbers will be affected. I'm sure circulation will decrease.

Here in South Dakota the Awake! magazine seems to be used as a throw down. Recently I picked up 4 or 5 copies from the sidewalks and lawns in the dirt beside the weekly penny shopper, lying around an apartment house I take care of. In the 50's we never would have thrown an Awake magazine down on the ground and walked away. I imagine those were reported as "placements" and tabulated in the totals of yearly service to Jehovah.

I think they lack competent writers. With channeling Bethelites into law and engineering and the death and descent into senility of the others, I guess they forgot someone had to have half a brain to write the articles.

They can only write about the mating habits of hermit crabs for so long, and use it to 'show' the magnificence of Jeehovie...

Blondie, I'd say they have those "half a brain" writers busy working on the Watchtower magazine and writing for the conventions. :-)

The Watchtower Society's international construction work has focused on building many laundromats so the pioneers™ would have more places to leave magazines. Truly, Jehovah is speeding up the work!!!
