My theory is that the carbon dioxide increase in our atmopsphere is as a direct result of people burning their unwanted JW literature....

... the evidence is there.... 50 - 60 years ago - no global warming, limited production of JW propoganda...

...... today - multi million production of Botchtower and Asleep - Global warming on epic scale.

What further evidence do we need ?

Old Circulation: Two issues at 22,842,000 copies (Total of 45,684,000 per month)

New Circulation: One issue at 32,412,000 copies (Total of 32,412,000 per month)

This is a net DECREASE of 13,272,000 copies per month.

Assuming each copy costs $0.75 to produce this is a savings of $9,954,000 per month or $119,448,000 per year. Now that is a chunk of change!

Youch!! I would then assume that you've been standing a little too close to that bonfire that bull01lay started which is causing the oxygen rich air to be consumed at an alarming pace thereby depleting all available oxygen resources in the immediate vicinity of said bonfire hence causing a rapid decrease in oxygen molecules supplying your brain.

I would venture a guess of around .02-.04 cents a copy, if that.

    .75 cents

    seems way to high

has to be less than .05 I would think.... Don't you?

I think you are right xjwms, I wouldn't know for sure, but have been told they cost only a few pence in UK currency to produce.

Afew pence is a lot more than they are worth though

The reason I said $0.75 is because when I was still in the bOrg and still charging for the magazines, we were instructed to tell people that the $0.50 for each magazine was to cover printing costs. $0.75 accounts for inflation.

If that statement is not true, then it means that the WTS instructed us to lie to people.

Of course they asked you to lie. I knew that at the time, I can't believe I actually went along with it. There was some tricky reasoning as to why it wasn't exactly a lie. But I can't for the life of me remember what it was.

"I think they lack competent writers. With channeling Bethelites into law and engineering and the death and descent into senility of the others, I guess they forgot someone had to have half a brain to write the articles."

You might be surprised by the many brothers at Bethel who would love to get into the Writing Dept. Some of them well-qualified, in fact, OVER-qualified. I think you know what I mean....

Each new Watchtower that is published still needs a companion magazine for door-to-door presentations. That's why they likely upped the production quota. However, unlike a bi-monthly magazine, individual JWs will still get one copy per month, leaving a reduced number of personal copies of the mags piling up in the closet. That move effectively reduced the number of personal copies of Awake! magazine to half of what it was before.

It's kind of a rip-off though if you're on someone's magazine route - you get 3 magazines for the same donation as what you gave for 4 in the past. I wonder if they'll end up doing 3-somes with the magazine presentations: 2 Watchtowers and 1 Awake!....

we were instructed to tell people that the $0.50 for each magazine was to cover printing costs.

Well, the word "cost" by itself can be construed many ways by different people. In fact, by itself, it really means little if anything.

Without more specifics, is "cost" only those direct items such as paper and ink or are we to include indirect items such as machinery, overhead, employee (volunteer) health care, food, transportation, insurance etc, etc, etc, etc.

It really comes down to how one defines "cost."

Since the WBTS is well, a publishing company my name, it could be argued that most expenses for the organization can be publishing-related in one way or another, especially those related to the buildings and similar assets.

While the direct cost of printing a magazine is a cent or less, the final "cost" could be considerably higher.
