I was wondering why The New World Translation says CORRESPONDING ransom , where as others do not. Anyone know where I can go and get a translation from greek to english.

There are a few options:

The Kingdom Interlinear Translation is published by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society and uses Wescott and Hort's Greek texts as a basis for literal translation.

There is www.e-sword.net, it has Strong's numbers by the words in a few translations. Just let me know if you have trouble figuring out how to set it up or use it.

There is a set I like for deep diving into the languages called Bible Works, but it is pricy.

There is www.blueletterbible.org that is a free resource I like a lot. If you click on this link: http://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/1Ti/1Ti002.html#6 you will go straight to the verse you asked about. Then you can click on C to the left and get the original language breakdown of the verse. Click on the word you wan't to dive into and it will give you the Greek and Thayer's comment on the word.

Snag the Kingdom Interlinear out of the KH library d. There are numerous sites where you can search Strong's Lexicon. BTW dfed, a witness who is searching Interlinears and Strongs is soon to be an xw. I love it. You are reminding myself of me when I was your age.

Ip the two things I searched for where in favor of the NWT. It was the other versions that were in accurate.

I can tell you what the KIT says here. They translated Wescott and Hort's as "the (one) having given himself corresponding ransom over all (ones), the witness to appointed times own;"

But the word means simply "something given in exchange for something else." It doesn't always have to be a balancing of the scales, because what would balance the sclaes would be from the standpoint of the one paying the price, not from the standpoint of onlookers. If you were thinking this might be a case of taking doctrinal liberties with the English wording, I agree with you.

P.S. I would enjoy reading your thoughts on a similar study of John 10:16. Is Jesus describing sheep from one source with two destinies or sheep from two sources with one destiny? And how does the NWT make it seem?
