    Hi everyone.

I'm keen to read more books about JW's. I've so far only read Crisis of Conscience but now have the appetite.I'd be more interested in the background of the organisation and what kind of people Russell and Rutherford were etc, but I'd also like to read any "apostate" exposes, especially ex elders.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome Clam

Glad to hear “Crisis of Conscience” rouses your interest. I also read “In Search of Christian Freedom”, also written by Ray Franz which I enjoyed immensely. I can recommend it

I have purchased a quantity of these two publications for distribution. They are eye-openers. The most economical place to obtain them is from Commentary Press at: www.commentarypress.com

Hi Clam, The book referred to by Spectrum The Gentile Times Reconsidered: Chronology and Christ's Return is excellent for debunking the 607 BCE date which the JWs use to arrive at their cornerstone date of 1914 C.E. This book helped me make my mind up about leaving the JWs because it is done from an archaeological perspective and should be on your booklist but is heavier reading than either of Franz's books. Many people have said they actually enjoyed In Search of Christian Freedom over Crisis of Conscience . Personally, by the time I got a quarter way through In Search of Christian Freedom my mind was already made up about the Watchtower being full of baloney. Don’t spend too much money on anti-JW books now as you’ll find much information here and on Randy’s and other sites – unless, that is, you wish to share what you find in the books with others! Happy reading, Ian

Indeed you can find a great deal of information on the JWs across numerous websites large and small, if you google key words like watchtower, jehovah witnesses, Charles Taze Russell, Joseph Rutherford, etc and then also from links in those sites.

Has anybody mentioned "Apocalypse Delayed" by James Penton. He went into quite a bit of the history. It is written from the perspective of someone who is not a witness so sometimes he gets more detailed than necessary, but I found it extremelly interesting.
