"How coud you not hug and kiss faces like these!"

I have no desire to kiss a dog, and I like dogs and cats. I guess my not wanting to kiss a dog stems from growing up on a farm and seeing what they eat. I've seen them lap runny calf scowers up as if it were water, lick their balls, play with dead animals that stink bad enough to make you puke, and be just all around nasty.

Kissing and fondling cats is a good way to get ringworms.

OOHHH THAT's where I got the ringworm from? I had it on my leg for like 2 years, until I finally went to the doctor. It was huge and all infected. After the doctor gave me something to put on it, it cleared up within days and never came back. Yes, I kiss my cat a lot, because she loves it. The cat also likes to kiss me back, but I'm not overly fond of that.

I hug my dog but kissing it would go too far because of the germs that they carry. I also make sure that he is flea free because fleas can also be a problem if you hug them.

Well, I don't actually kiss them on the mouth...although I have seen reports that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's mouth....but I do kiss them on the head. I have two sweetie dogs....a white german shepherd and a beagle. The beagle clearly likes to lick anyone his tongue can reach (they are natural gluttons, so maybe he's tasting everyone....hmmmmmm). In fact, I recently saw a welcome mat I think I need to get...it says: "Warning: Dog cannot hold it's licker" Oh yeah, and they are treated regularly for fleas, ticks, etc., so I don't worry about that. If I did, then the little guy wouldn't sleep in our bed every night! I LOVE my pets....they are my furry children. :-)

    Arthur:

I shudder at the thought of anything happening to her. And I don't even like her. What is wrong with me?

Nothing wrong with you, mate - you're just being won over! Dogs are able to do that. I don't know another animal that is able to win its way into one's affections so easily. Let things come naturally and truly appreciate what you have. I really do think it is a wonderful gift for one species to be so affectionate to another - and that cuts both ways!

My two dogs are border collies. They're bitches and we don't call them dogs, we always say "Where's the girls!" Actually, they follow Claire about more than they follow me. As Claire is out most of the day working, that's when I get more of their attention. As I type this Sally, the younger of the two, is lying on my bed asleep. I just love how loyal dogs are - and remember some have defended their owners to the death. I'd have another tomorrow because they are non-judgemental, loving and bring immense joy to the house. I also believe that Rosie, my other dog, has been here before. She is incredibly intelligent, but also easily frightened. Fireworks, especially, make her distressed.

Whenever I come home from the hospital both dogs sniff me for ages. I love all the fuss! I guess I really am going to the dogs!

Cats. 4 of 'em. I've had 4 others in the past and I'll tell you each one is totally different from each other! We have a pride, and a very nice one at that.

I "force" them to get held and cuddled on occasion because I'm mom-cat and I can! They've learned to trust me. They know that when they want down I will put them down gently. Even Princess has learned this and no longer claws her way out of our arms.

I kiss them gently ontop of the their widdle heads. Max, at night, will often kiss and wash my eyes! Then when he really wants attention - about 3 A.M. he'll walk up and down my body meowing loudly (he's 19 pounds). If that doesn't get my attention, he'll give me a wet willy! Argh!

I've had a couple of dogs as an adult. They were both awesome creatures! The 2nd one, Tippett, turned me back into a dog person. She was so smart and so sensitive.

Finally Free said: about his cockatoo

Yup. Rocco even likes to slip me some tongue now and then.

    W

We have a cockatiel. My daughter taught it to take out her teeth retainer. The bird will work it out, and drop it in her hand. It also likes to cuddle, and put her head under your chin, and have you massage her teeny tiny neck, and she purrs like a cat.

If you ask for a kiss, (If she is in the mood), she will meet you beak to lips. If she isn't in the mood, she just turns her head, like a stuck up snob.

She has a different relationship with husband, daughter and I. My husband just pets her a little, and lets her peck at wiskers, play with buttons, and just relax.

Me, lots of petting, she gets pissed when you stop, and me trying to teach her to do things.

My daughter, they fight. She torments this bird. Scaring her with her fingers, petting her where she hates to be petted, Lots of hissing, (both of them) LOL, Daughter also kisses her. She also stickes out her tongue, and the bird bites it, several times each time. (Lightly) and screams.

So when we take her out of the cage, we put her on the back of the couch, and we wait to see what kind of mood she is in, who she goes to. So, yes I do kiss my pet. But not french kiss it like my daughter and Finally Free do.

I love animals (in a trotally platonic sense, may I assure you ), but the idea of kissing them just grosses me out. What do you think I am, Welsh?!!!!

Ringworm is a common fungus found in the garden. Yes you can get infected by a pet that brings it in on their fur, and the pet isn't necesarily infected. But you can also pick it up just gardening.
