I had a chilling experience with a Sister Sneaky/Deceptive this morning at the ER where I went for some lab work and to get my eye infection treated. Sister Sneaky/Deceptive was the one who interviewed me to obtain info to put me in their computer system. As she progressed with her questions, she asked: SSD (sis sneaky/deceptive): Religion? Me: NO. I was a member of a very restrictive religious cult for almost 20 yrs and I'm really off religion now. SSD: Well, I was raised a Baptist myself. This led me to believe that she still is a Baptist and I relaxed and began telling her how I OD'd on their organization's "spin" on the scriptures and finally burned out. Additionally, I told her that if she knew of anyone who was contemplating a bible study with Jehovah's Witnesses to warn them off. SSD: Really? Just burned out, huh? And you have a completely clear conscience now? How do you feel now and how have you been doing since then? Me: Yes, absolutely. (ciggies in breast pocket of scrubs sticking out for SSD to plainly see) As a matter of fact, my blood pressure went back down to normal after I left and life's been pretty good to me since then. SSD: Really? Well, I've been a baptised Jehovah's Witness for 24 years. Me: (I'm sure my jaw dropped and a stunned look appeared on my face.) Fantastic. Later I got to kicking myself mentally thinking "WHY didn't I tell her it was because of the serious lack of love that I left, something she could see for herself, instead of making out it was my fault like I OD'd on the scriptures myself instead of having 'em shoved down my throat and up the wazoo alla time?" Then I thought about it again and realized that there are just some *ssholes in the WTS (she reminded me of a very pushy pioneer sis in Calif.) that don't deserve the truth nor to be turned loose on an unsuspecting general public as a peer. But OMG I sounded like such a LOSER to her I betcha! Ah well......what do I care since she was so sneaky and deceptive. She deserves to stay in it. Frannie

Since when do hospitals ask if you have a religion? I think she was freelancin' on her form-fillin'.

Jgnat, if I were gonna bet on that I might as well flush my money down the toilet. I just reinforced most of their teachings about "apostates" for her. I oughta go back and threaten to open a can of whoopass on her if she puts "apostate" down in the blank for religion in my file.

And if local elders show up soon at our address to check me out to see if they need to throw my butt out or something, I WILL follow up with legal action against the hospital and the society for invasion of privacy, since SSD has access to all my personal info.

Frannie, are you offically (by the jws standard) out of the org? or are you just fading and not DA or DF? Not trying to be nosy, and you certainly do not have to answer that, but if you are not offically out (or even if you are), she WILL share that info with the local cong. Yes I know all about privacy, but I tell you now, she will report you. it is their spiritual warfare.

They can and do ask your religion b/c if you have any special needs they will try and accomdate you. They want to know if you are a jws b/c of the blood. Also, they will ask if you want a visit from the chaplin.. So they can ask, you can always refuse to answer. I got myself out of the bloodless program last ER visit I had.

Me: ; Yes, absolutely. (ciggies in breast pocket of scrubs sticking out for SSD to plainly see) ; As a matter of fact, my blood pressure went back down to normal after I left and life's been pretty good to me since then.

I'm sure she'll remember you, but the comment above is one thing she's going to remember as well, even if she thinks you are a 'loser'. Hard for her to explain why your blood pressure is down and life is so much better after leaving the "truth"! You told her point-blank it was a cult/control group, too. She might be indignant about that, and who knows where that could lead. If she really cares about truth, (not trooth) that is.

Your story reminds me of a time when I was elaborating about some of the more bizarre oddities of Mormonism to Greg's cousin, within earshot of a woman sitting nearby. My husband's Mormon (at that time) sister came over, and then said, "OH! Here's my friend (pointing to woman) from church!" and introduced us to her. We both knew that she'd gotten an earful of our conversation, and I felt embarassed! I asked my sil later (after she was left the MOrg-as she calls it!) whether that "friend" mentioned anything to her about our conversation. Apparently, she said nothing at all... makes me wonder if she eventually left... I really hope so, but I'll never know!! I really don't regret her hearing, when I think about it.

BTW, I sometimes wonder how a JW in good standing could be working in the medical field... aren't they supposed to stay away from college?? Or do they have to rely on recruiting educated worldly people?...

    Don't kick yourself Fran.

tijkmo, she told me she was raised a Baptist right after I let her know I'd come out of a restrictive religious cult and her alarm bells went off. Then she proceeded to pump me with questions that were NOT on the questionnaire she was filling out in my behalf, questions that she obviously felt would justify her nosiness and sneakiness and deception.

She SHOULD have told me up front that she was a jdub.

They all have a "religious affiliation/denomination" blank to fill in on patient forms so they can call in a priest, preacher or chaplain in case of dire circumstances/emergency/trauma.

No worries, Weds....I'm perfectly at home and yall feel like family here on JWD. And I am dF'd, but she didn't ask about the circumstances and I only indicated that I'd left not the circumstances or how I made my exit, so the door's kinda open to speculation on her part as to whether I'm da'd, dF'd or a "fader." I actually forced the Gov. Potty to order my dF'ing back in 1992 when I wrote them a letter calling them among other things...the "white-washed graves and hypocrites" they actually are and telling them that Jesus Christ couldn't qualify for baptism in the WT-BATS.
