Hi robhi I'd like to reply to your post please, Thank you.

He tempted Adam & Eve by telling them the truth! He did not tell them the truth.

If they did have all god’s attributes, why could he so handily bounce them from the garden? God made Adam & Eve and Satan. God is the one in charge. Why didn’t they fight back? There were two of them. Because they were not gods and they had no power to do so. In any case, god said if and when they ate from the tree they would die. But they lived another 900 or so years. Long ago people lived much longer. Even scientific and weather conditions played a part in this. Ofcourse through the Creator. Adam and Eve did eventually die. They could not live forever because they sinned. So who lied? Not satan... Oh yes he lied indeedy.

And the bit about tempting jesus. So what? He tempted him, jesus declined the offer, no-harm-no foul as far as I can see. What does satan actually do that makes him so bad?

Satan couldn't tempt Jesus because Jesus is the Creator. Satan is bad because he tempts human beings into doing wrong, evil, horrible things. Satan can control one's mind if you allow it.

Tell folks to slaughter women and children (but keeping the more attractive women for wives)? Destroy whole towns or civilizations? Kill 70,000 people because some guy took a census and a myriad of other nasty things? No, it was god (the one who supposedly loves everyone) doing this! Not satan... If a child does wrong would you punish him? Yes but you would try to correct him first. God does that...but there comes a time when God is firm. You don't listen then you feel.

God does all the reprehensible things but satan gets blamed for stuff only because he seems to be a handy scape goat the way I see it. No people are to be blamed too, not God. Satan does his enticing and people carry it out. BlessedStar

    BlessedStar:

From your alias, I had a feeling you would post the thoughts you did. And you are welcome to your beliefs as I am to mine.

But ..... do you realize that your post proves out exactly what my point was? Satan gets the blame for all things which people won't take responsibility for. "God is good" yet he killed thousands upon thousands of people. Do I believe in punishment? You bet I do! But I wouldn't kill my daughter for stealing pocket change from my dresser or coming home late. Would you?

And you may want to check your facts a little closer. People never did and probably never will live for 900 years! Not even close. The atmosphere back then would have probably shortened lives not lengthened them so outrageously.

    But thanks for your thoughts.

Why would an intelligent reasonably powerful being like Satan (if he exists) challenge god in a battle he knows he cannot win? I think Satan's purpose is to open the eyes of mankind. To remind them that free will isn't really free will if you are punished for exercising it. Satan is more of a sacrifice than Jesus ever could be because for satan there will be no resurrection. He has a point to make, perhaps it's "God shouldn't make thinking creatures if he is just going to boss them around." And for that point he is going to be killed. In my opinion that isn't evil, it's noble. (this is all just ideas because i don't really think any of them are any more than fables.)

I think it's the horns and pitchfork thing.

I would feel a lot better about him if he was neatly dressed and held a tennis racket or something.

I don't know any of you at all, I don't know your beliefs, how scared you are from being a JW but I read some of your comments and i can't believe it. who are we to say what GOD does is right or wrong. If a person does not believe in GOD I suppose it is easy but if a person does at all......I don't even know what to say. Does everyone who posted think Hitler wasen't so bad? Pure evil is never good. Not that i am any better than anyone else here, but I do believe in GOD and whatever he says goes.

You took literal meanings where not intended

This is exactly why I have little or no time to engage in these sorts of debates.

Who is the great official arbiter of where literal meanings are intended, and where not?

John 1:1 "...and the word was God"

Trinitarian: "See there? Jesus is God"

JW: "You took literal meanings where not intended"

John 14:28: "...the Father is greater than I am..."

JW: "See there? Jesus is not God"

Trinitarian: "You took literal meanings where not intended"

    Ad infinitum..

LMS-Chef... Does god speak to you directly so that you know you are doing the right thing? If not how do you know that what your priest is telling isn't just their interpertation of what god says? Did God tell you the bible was his word? If not how do you know that it is? Just curious....
