Jehovah's Witnesses are an Old Testament Religion

    There's no doubt about it.

I did an experiment last year, at the conventions, assemblies and meetings to determine how often the symbol of Christianity, Jesus Christ, is actually mentioned, talked about and discussed.

With the exception of the Memorial, and even that was more on the wine and bread than on Christ himself, there are no talks devoted soley to Jesus Christ and the work he did.

Watchtower will make vague references to Christ to back up THERE claims, such as Matt 24:14, "This good news..." and "Go therefore and make disciples...".

One may ask, why would the Watchtower do this? Why would they take the emphasis of Jesus and put it on themselves, the "faithful and discreet slave?"

    Two possibilities exist:

    1) Like the Israelites of old waiting for Moses to come down from the mountain, they made a golden calf, their God, and proceeded to worship it. Today, WT has exhausted its date setting, all it can do is say the "end is near." Having no other insight on the second coming, they are not patient to wait on Christ who said that "no-one knows the day or the hour" and have set themselves up as an idol.

See the latest chapter in the "Organized to do Jehovah's Will book" on "Trusting the Faithful and Discreet Slave."

    2) Jesus and the religion he started were free from the rules and regulations of the Mosaic Law, although some principles were still acknowledge (Ten commandments). Christianity is freedom in Christ. Watchtower would have no need to exist, other than a "guiding force" if they correctly acknowleged Jesus. If this was the case, the WTS would revert back to the status they had in the 1900's, simply as an ASSOCIATION of International Bible Students, with autonomous congegations.

Because the WTS has books and magazines to distribute and people they need to control, it becomes necessary to alientate their followers from Jesus.

What better way than to discourage a relationship/faith in Jesus than to tell Jehovah's Witnesses that they can't share in the Lord's Evening Meal becuase they are not part of the new covenant.

Watchtower has REPLACED Jesus as the mediator of Jehovah's Witnesses.

The Faithful and Dicreet Slave is the Levitical Priesthood of the ancient Israelites.

Just as one had to "approach" a priest to get approval from Jehovah, Witnesses are taught to have deep respect, almost reverential awe for the "faithful and discreet slave"

Recently, I have observed a disturbing trend - one that may always have been there but now it's becoming more common to hear the brother "thank Jehovah for the faithful and discreet slave, and please bless them" when opening or closing with prayer.

The Watchtower Society is truly a cult, using Old Testament history to control their adherents.

Jesus on the other hand said, "that my yoke is kindly and my load is light."

The one and only goal of The Watchtower Organization is to keep the Organization going no matter what.

The major way of doing this is through the accumulation of property and assets.

The people are taught to support the activities of The Watchtower, and ancient Israel's concentration (centralizing) of worship at the temple in Jerulsalem is best suited for The Watchtower maintaining control today.

Rutherford accomplished this when he had the "Birth of a Nation" article published in The Watchtower back in the 1920s. This was followed by his promotion of "The Theocracy", and "The New World" which became "The New World Society".

Basically, The Watchtower has created its own little universe with itself at the center and in control. Nothing else matters outside that universe. Just keep the money and resources coming in. And that is done through their control of the people through the use of the religious doctines that The Watchtower has created.

This was all done delibrately through the years. It is both slick and sick at the same time.

    Interesting post VM44.

Also, the book "30 Years a Watchtower Slave" really shows you how insidious the whole thing is. That they could acutally, wilfully think up these doctrines just to get what they want is despicable.

They are extremely judgemental like the OT priesthood and society. There is vey little leeway on any issue. The israelites used to wipe out whole tribes, the JWs are waiting for all non-JWs to die.

Thank you PMJ. You prove the point of the of the thread perfectly.

The society has printed over 150 books and over 200 booklets.

As you pointed out there is one, that is, 1 about Jesus.

What does that tell you about how important Jesus is to them.

    Yes, PMJ.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Chapter 111, 'Sign of the Last Days.'

Here are some highlights from that chapter that I would like to share with you:

1.) In the major fulfillment of the sign, the disgusting sign is the League of Nations and its successor, the United Nations. This organisation is viewed by Christendom as a substitute for God's Kingdom. How disgusting!

Have you ever asked a Christian how they view the United Nations?
If the United Nations is so disgusting then why did the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society carry on an almost 10 year affiliation with them and why did they dissolve that affiliation the very next day after an article in the British newspaper, The Guardian, provide details of this affiliation?

2.) Although Jesus' prophecy has a limited fulfillment prior to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 C.E., the major fulfillment of it takes place during his presence and the conclusion of the system of things. A careful review of world events since 1914 reveals that Jesus' momentous prophecy has been undergoing its major fulfillment since that year.

What scriptural or secular evidence proves this statement?
Have you compared world events since the first century with events beginning in 1914?

3.) Christ's brothers are the remaining ones on earth of the 144,000 who will rule with him in heaven. And doing good to them, Jesus says, is the same as doing good to him.

What did Jesus really say about His brothers?
Would their identity be obvious to all?

Matt 25:38-45 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or without clothes and clothe You?
When did we see You sick, or in prison, and visit You?’

“And the King will answer them, ‘I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’
Then He will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels!

    For I was hungry

    and you gave Me nothing to eat;

    I was thirsty

    and you gave Me nothing to drink;

    I was a stranger

and you didn’t take Me in; I was naked

    and you didn’t clothe Me,

    sick and in prison

and you didn’t take care of Me.’

“Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help You?’

“Then He will answer them, ‘I assure you: Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me either.’

4.) Humans cannot see angels in their heavenly glory. So the arrival of the Son of man, Jesus Chrsit, with the angels must be invisible to human eyes. The arrival occurs in the year 1914.

What does the following scripture say about Jesus' coming?
What will see Him? Hint - every eye
Where does the Bible say that Jesus' arrival occurs in 1914?

Rev 1:7 Look! He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, including those who pierced Him. And all the families of the earth will mourn over Him.

Very true. The reason the WTS is different from Christianity is their reliance on the OT in a number of ways.

The rules on disfellowshipping are often based on the OT. The NT gave less than 10 reasons for shunning, yet the JWs have over 30. Where did these others come from? Often the OT. For example, there is no mention of gambling being wrong in the bible, so the WTS refers to some vague OT principle of the God of Good luck and makes it a d/f offense. It uses the OT concept of stoning ones family to explain that we should shun family, the NT never mentions family in the shunning rules.

The word Jehovah never appears in the NT. The WTS felt it needed to make the OT and NT consistent on the use of this word, so include Jehovah in the NT in the NWT bible, rather than understand why Jesus did not use the word Jehovah.

That Jesus is not our Mediator is what I find one of the worst aspects of the WTS. By assigning the F&D slave this role is putting them in place of Jesus himself. By trying to marry to old and the new and promote Mosaic principles the whole message of the Ransom sacrifice is lost.
