Ary Spoelstra (b.1956) A Brief Introduction by The Artist I was born in the Netherlands in 1956. Having lived in the Caribbean for 15 years, I was able to observe the natural beauty of the female of many different nationalities, from a very early age. I've spend all my life sketching, drawing, observing, and studying the human form. I have always been fascinated by the natural beauty of the human form. I have used the pencil as my main medium. Though having worked with other mediums, oils, acrylics, and pastels, I always came back to the graphite pencil. Each medium has it's own unique qualities and I found that the pencil has a certain serenity in grey values that is not found in coloured mediums.
Later in my life when back in Europe once again, I studied Art, Sculpting and Design professionally for 4 years and developed my own unique style of capturing the human form. Since then, I have had an opportunity to study the female form in the fullest extent.
Now since 1978, living in the USA, I have been doing nudes, models, portraits, fantasy art, as well as couples. I work from photographs, live sessions and take special requests and do commissions as well. Many are collectors of my work. Please enjoy your visit. All works are originals and they are 'one of a kind' only! There are no prints or copies.
