I should be mad really, but i have 2 say that the reasent signs in the world like the consistant earthquakes ect have really opened my eyes as 2 whether or not jw teachings may be true!

You should check out the book "Signs of the Last Day - When?" by Carl olof Jonsson. Jonsson's historical analysis of earthquakes, war, crimes and famine makes a strong case that we are not living in the worst time in history. He also shows examples of the Watchtower misrepresenting and twisting secular evidence in order to promote their 1914 doctrine. This book is a must read for JWs, ex-JWs and anyone who is considering becoming a JW.

There r alot of things about the realigion that i dislike dnt get me wrong! I really think it has messd my ex boyfriends head up so much, hes very paranoid, he gets wound up easily, he finds it hard to express his feeling, he finds it hard to make friends, he was insecure, very unsure about what he wanted to do in life (because the next life was more important) and he always thought (that i found very strange) that the government was always against him!! And he could also brush people off his without considering their feelings!

Do these things ring a bell with anyone else who is seeing or married to a jw?

I hope this doesn't sound cruel--but you do not need a man like that in your life! Regardless of religion! He sounds like a cold person--it won't work--take it from someone who knows!

    Tasha;
That was me years ago. I stayed as a JW Boy long after my body became mature. I did not become a man until I began to think, until I started viewing other humans as people, not just characatures of evil and sin. Like when I made friends with gay people I learned they weren't perverts and couldn't dismiss them like I had as a Dub.

I grew up a lot after leaving the Truth™.

Of course a Dub feels the Government is after him... it's Satan™'s arm by which the Dub will eventually be persecuted. And speaking of persecution, every time he is disagreed with it is taken as an act of being persecuted and reinforces the sense of self-righteousness and being in the Truth™.

That sounds a lot like many JWs I have known. They are taught that because they are "the only true religion" that the governments, (which they claim are run by Satan the Devil) are against them. JWs expect to be persecuted and take any criticism as being persecution.

I believe that the insecurity, paranoia and inability to express himself comes from being a member of a high-control group/cult. JWs are programmed from birth to do whatever their leaders tell them to do and to shun anyone who is outside of their organization. I am surprised that he was even dating you since dating a non-JW is a big no-no. He probably broke up with you because he is being told that Satan is using you as a way to keep him from "the truth". He is completely brainwashed, there is little you can do about it, he needs to leave on his own.

You seem like a really nice girl and you don't deserve to be treated badly by anyone. View this as a learning experience and move on. Look for someone who cares about you and respects you for who you are.

Hi Tasha. If you want to go out with a JW boy without becoming a JW yourself it will not be an easy road. I just wanted to comment on your reflection that :

the recent signs in the world like the consistent earthquakes etc have really opened my eyes as 2 whether or not jw teachings may be true!

I attended a lecture this evening given by Professor James Jackson. He is is Professor of Active Tectonics in the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge, England and one of the world's foremost authorities on earthquakes. The lecture was on 'Surviving Natural Disasters' and dealt specifically with the cause and location of earthquakes. He made the point that although the earth's crust is still behaving as it did in the past, the number of earthquakes causing the deaths of 10,000 or more people has increased dramatically this century. And we should expect this trend to continue with deaths of a million or more from a single earthquake in the near future.

Whether this is what Jesus referred to when he spoke of "great earthquakes" I do not know. And I would encourage you not to be too ready to see fulfillment of prophecy in daily catastrophes. But I did find the lecture thought-provoking and made a mental note to stay clear of the Himalayas.

You would base a life altering decision on the fact that there are 'consistant earthquakes'!?!?!?!

Who told you that there were consistant earthquakes?

What evidence do you have to support such a claim?

What is the earthquake trend in the last 100 years?

Who told you that earthquakes=end of the world?

The bible states that you would know a religion was true by its' works. What are the JW's "works"? (protecting pedophiles within the organization, joining the UN as an organization but not allowing members to vote, carry political cards that could save their lives, etc, prophesying falsely and then blaming members for being too 'eager', changing blood transfusion laws about what WAS allowed, but what now is allowed, people have DIED because they refused ANY part of blood, but now they are allowed 'certain' parts of blood, disfellowshipping people (total shunning by friends and family that are JW, it is as if you are dead) for homosexuality, sex before marriage, adultry, smoking, drinking too much, disagreeing or questioning Watchtower teachings too much, and more.)

Have you researched JWs from a JW perspective, an ex-JW perspective, a JW in but wants out perspective etc? One sided information is just that, one sided.

Gain all the facts, get educated, then make an INFORMED decision.

When you hear something, always always ask, "WHY am I being told this? What year is that quote from? Is it the whole quote or only part? What article is this from? Who said that? (nothing is ever referenced), How do they know that interpretation is the correct one? Could it mean _________? What if you looked at it from this angle, what does it then mean? Is this meant to scare me, encourage me, motivate me, brainwash me, love me, encourage me to shun others, act inhumane?"

I could go on and on, but I will stop. Just ask questions and don't be so gullible as to believe things just because you were told them. Become educated.

Perchance because the world's population has grown exponentially and cities tend to be bigger, so that when they do take life it's on a grander scale??
