I didn't know you were there or that I needed to meet YOUR requirements. I'd ask you to 'show me yours,' but I don't really care about comments from the peanut gallery... folks like you who sit on the sidelines and can only muster criticism for the participants. People who do what you've done here are sad.

Odd remark from one who's criticized one of the best essayists on this board.

By the way, I'm a certified writing tutor and a teaching fellow in the English department of a top-tier university. I get paid to evaluate student writing all the time. And the truth is, your essay was riddled with mite-size grammatical mistakes, insipid cliches, and tedious redundancy. Reading it was akin to being bitten by the same mosquito over and over again. Your professor probably liked it, but only because you demonstrated some understanding of what he already said in class. The essay itself has little inherent merit.

It's not that you're a terrible writer. It's just that there's no compelling reason to have read this essay; posting it wasn't even clever, as you had hoped.

    Listen Folks,

TeeJay said that he was unconcerned about your opinions of his essay. This is probably not true. He posted his essay because he was proud of it and felt it to be worthy. Larc and I have no interest in the movie, so we are not in the position to judge its analytical value, however we both concur that it is clearly written. We can however judge peoples feelings and TeeJay, is probably feeling a little hurt over this one. Farkel, and remember he is the person TeeJay apparently slighted, has been most magnanimous in his treatment of TeeJay over this whole issue.

TeeJay, try to turn off the ‘issue locator’, we may have different opinions but surely we can all be friends here, let us try to get on and move on.

    Hey, Tina-Girl... {{{{{{{{{ peace to you, dear one!}}}}}}}}}

I am QUITE okay. Went to Las Vegas (needed a vacation, the Spirit said, "Go to Las Vegas" and since I wanted to see New York, Paris, Venice, Singapore, Rome, Egypt, Rio... and Camelot all in one weekend, I went. Almost did it see it all, too - missed "New York, New York" and "Paris" - LOL!)

And awesome sight, Las Vegas. A LOT of people... a LOT of cigarette smoke... and a LOT of heat! But I had a very good time. Ate and drank bread and wine with some dear ones, washed feet... received a new 'gift' (and THAT was awesome... let me tell you!).

But I am... 'back to life; back to reality'... as far as this system of things goes! LOL! How are YOU? How is that great son of yours? Did he decide on the details of his trip? Yada, yada, yada - LOL!

Thank you for thinking of me, my dear sister. Many others have, too, and I am grateful and a servant to you all.

    PEACE, girl! To time indefinite!

    Your sister,

    Shel

I feel like starting an argument.

    Shelby/AGuest,

Went to Las Vegas (needed a vacation, the Spirit said, "Go to Las Vegas"

WHY did you go to Las Vegas?

Why the Holy Spirit lead you there?

Did you take Jesus with you?

How did Jesus like Las Vegas?

Las Vegas, in my observation, has the Absolute Largest Concentration of Freaking PHONINESS on the entire surface of the Earth.
Did Jesus and the Comforter like the Glitter, the Flashing Neon Lites, the Night Life, the Broken Dreams, the Drunkeness, the Prostitution, etc.,etc...just ALL the Showy Display of the World.

    - Las Vegas could legitimately be called "The Showcase of the World's Spirit" ... sooo, why would you be led there by the Holy Spirit for a vacation??

    THAT makes no Christian sense.
Now, if you told us you were going there on business, well, okay, but not 'vacation'.

I can see the Holy Spirit leading a Christian to Yosemite for vacation.

    .

I bet Jesus did NOT like Las Vegas

Tammy Fake Bakker used to say that Jesus and the Spirit went with her when she went grocery shopping and shopping for clothes and jewelry...
just everywhere! Jesus & the Spirit went with her everywhere.

She even said that when she took a Bubble Bath, who do you think was right there in the tub with her? - you guessed it - Jesus!

(BTW... the Spirit "said" to me to write all this)

    Tallyman:

Has Shelby asked you to send in 10% of your income because that Spirit told her too, then used that money to vacation in Las Vegas? If so then I could understand your having a problem. If she did it on her own dim, then I don't understand your point. Something comes to mind about consciences and being able to make your own decisions about most issues in ones life. Maybe Shelby can enlighten on those verses that talk about that. I'm kinda rusty on my scripture references.

    BB,

Has Shelby asked you to send in 10% of your income because that Spirit told her too, then used that money to vacation in Las Vegas?

    No.
    Not yet.

If she did it on her own dim, then I don't understand your point.

She did not "do it on her own".
THAT's my Whole Point. (well, most of it, anywho)
The Spirit said for her to go to Las Vegas to vacation.

Something comes to mind about consciences and being able to make your own decisions about most issues in ones life.

    Right.
THAT's my Whole Point. (well, most of it, anywho)
I wonder where she would have gone on vacation, "on her own"?-
"making her own decision"...without the Spirit acting as her Travel Agent?

It's like, WHOA! Man! Las Vegas?? Vacation spot for a Christian?
    C'mon!
And the Holy Spirit picked it out as this year's choice??
    C'mon!

Las Vegas, Las Vegas, all that is Fake, Phony, Superficial, Counterfeit... Las Vegas, Las Vegas, the Tare to the stalk of Wheat.

Uh, uhhh, something doesn't jibe, here.

I'm worried for Shelby... that the "voices" she's hearing are coming from a tainted water(of life) source.

Hey, now, Hey now, if the Dev said to Shelby: "Hey Babe, let's go to Vegas this year. I needs some Action! I loves the heat!...
    well, we could believe that.

    I misspelled "dime". Sorry, dude.

Anywho's you still don't get my point. The Spirit said to her to go to Las Vegas for a vacation. The only place to go on vacation that ain't tainted by at leaast some degree of 'worldliness'(I hate that word!), probably would be heaven. Ya can't get there until you don't need anymore vacations....For there is neither work, nor devising....well you get it.

She never said that the Spirit was telling her to go to Las Vegas for any spiritual reason whatsoever, it just said go there and she went. Maybe the spirit thought it was best for HER and was the right spot for HER at the time. Kriticism seems kuite kultish to me. No harm meant, just a few thoughts and observations.

    larc,

if you wish to believe that i care about the opinions of strangers, fine. i have no problem with that. one of my main goals here is to show that many of the posters have not advanced very far beyond the mentality of an average jw--they just don't go to the kingdom hall anymore. this can be seen in a variety of ways. in itself, it's not necessarily a bad thing. what does make it bad is when those same people condescend and needlessly criticize jws. there's a word for when people criticise in others what they themselves do.

you keep calling what my post on the Matt 25 thread as a barb. you are misreading it. yes, i skimmed it, but is my analysis correct?
    ----------------------
    dedalus,

your job qualifies you as an able editor and critic of literary material. i have no problem with that. where you showed a lack of decorum and class is when you jumped in unannounced into a dialog between two individual posters. you could have handled yourself a little better, that's all.

    --------------------------------------------
    hillary_step,

i'm not especially 'proud' of the essay i posted above, but it IS an essay due to it's content and construction. as well researched, thoughtfully written and helpful as Farkel's material is to some, i would not call them essays. they are more like commentaries, pinpointing inaccuracies of thought and theology in someone else's work. again, i have no problem with that, but beginning with a kernal of an idea and working it up into an essay where it's able to stand on its own is not the same.

as i mentioned to Larc (and you may disbeleive it as he does), i really don't care about the personally negative opinions of strangers, although the critique of the above essay is totally justified. i'm not a professional writer, and would not begin to even think of myself as one simply because i've finished two semesters of college English. i AM amused by the unfair criticism from some who are not about to offer their essays to public scrutiny... even more of a reason to disdain their words.

Farkel has been most magnanimous in his treatment of TeeJay over this whole issue.

Farkel has been more than fair towards me. perhaps we, he and i, have turned a corner and i must say that i am not repulsed by the idea.

    peace to all
