Does Genesis Teach a Local Flood?

With many subjects, I would agree. However, the idea of a global Flood has been so thoroughly, so systematically, and so solidly discredited, if a satellite photo shows the remains of a large ship on the mountain, the most likely question to ask would be, "All right, who's the prankster?"

I never said it was local or global or neither.
If the satellite were to show that there were remains of a huge ship there that would not necessarily prove there had been or not been a GLOBAL flood; but it would add credence to the idea that there had been a flood that even if not global was nevertheless locally of ESTRAORDINARY elevation.
In fact even as we discuss this there is an actual underwater expedition going on in the Black Sea which is just north of Ararat. Scientists are endeavoring to bring up more information regarding a huge flood that they feel may have occured when ancient glaciers suddenly broke through the Bosphorus Straits. Had you not read of that?

Indeed I have, and an impressive flood that must have been. Might even have led to Flood myths down the road, it was so memorable. None of this says anything about a global flood, which is an impossibility. Local floods, sure. Massive local floods, sure. Global flood, no.

Hello Larc
If you meant to say American Indians, yes they do have a legend. I looked in my photo albums and found a snapshot of me and my two boys when returning from an assembly in Winnepeg Canada circa 1966. The plaque on the totem pole says "THE RAVEN FLOOD TOTEM".
I can't read the rest of it because the camera was not close enough. But the gist of the story is that the raven saved two children from a great flood. Can't remember if it was a boy and a girl but that sounds like it had to be. WTS says all these legends just prove what they have been saying all along. Go figure.

Please try to think!
How the heck can a flood place something on a mountain 5,137 meters (16,854 ft) tall and not be global? Please read my essay if you still do not understand.
I cannot fathom how this can be such a big problem to understand. Even a man like COJ, who has a great intellect, somehow fails to grasp this fact, which will be pretty obvious to many children.

I find it utterly pathetic if real scientists waste money on such a ridiculous project.
What's next? Try to locate the house of the three little pigs? Or Aladdin's lamp?
Religionists must have a death grip on people's intellect when they take such a story as if it was actual fact.

We could use a flood here in Montana. It's dry as hell this year. Anybody know how we could tick God off so we can get some rain up here? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Jan, Jan, Jan. You're so predictable.
How is there any difference between your approach/reaction to a discussion and that of the JWs?
You must agree with every jot and tittle of the JWs latest understanding or be insulted, invalidated, and called an apostate.
You also must agree with every jot and tittle of the latest viewpoint and outlook of JanH, or be insulted, invalidated, and called anti-intellectual. What's the difference? None.
This proves you can take Jan out of the JWs, but you can't take the JW out of Jan. Seems true that you can't be an "anti-" anything without being just like that to which you are opposed. Is there any difference between a proton and an antiproton?
I personally think you should attempt to develop a sense of humor about yourself. That would be right in keeping with the subject matter. Right now I get the impression that you couldn't drive a sewing needle up your asshole with a sledgehammer. Don't take yourself so seriously. You're obviously bright, but your viewpoint is AN opinion, not THE opinion.
And, in case you missed it, we are in agreement that no such thing as a worldwide flood ever occured. Don't you know how to take "yes" for an answer? Or must you feel surrounded by a legion of adoring myrmidons and sycophants?
Finally, no, I do not feel that anything like an objective world exists at all. But I despair discussing it with you since I get the impression that you are thoroughly reductionistic, a dedicated determinist whose chief technique in dealing with alternative viewpoints concerning the world and its phenomena is to behave as much like a JW challenged on the blood issue as possible. In other words, a waste of time. You have no respect for alternative approaches or the people who espouse them; why should you receive a species of respect you are unwilling to accord others?
I've watched in amusement for many months as you've revealed the basic lack of confidence you have in those opinions of yours which you knowingly intone as if you're Moses speaking from the mountain. Isn't it ever embarrassing for you to realize you're speaking from a podium in a crowded auditorium without so much as a stitch of clothing covering your intellectual nakedness?
