Dozy,
I have been trying to maintain respect for you, and I still have respect because I believe you are very sincere (far more so than many regular posters here, in point of fact). I don't want you to get the wrong idea, I am not taunting you in posting this but I laughed out loud when I saw your assessment of the purposes of the UN/DPI. I want to take them a few at a time.
Promotion of an informed understanding of the work and purposes of the UN;
Planning, programming and coordination of information activities related to the priority issues and special events of the UN in consultation with the departments and offices concerned
Seeking support and cooperation from external organizations for the public information activities of the UN;
Establishing productive working relationships with mass media organizations, government information services, NGOs and educational institutions;
Is this objective in harmony with the Bible or contrary to the Bible? In other words, does the Bible recommend or discourage promotion of the work and purposes of the UN? It seems a recall a Scripture that has a direct bearing on that point. And maybe even a comment from the Revelation book.
*** re chap. 29 p. 199 Singing the Triumphal New Song ***
5 The 144,000 have no part with the worshipers of the wild beast, who are marked with the symbolic number 666. (Revelation 13:15-18)
Revelation 13:14-18—And it misleads those who dwell on the earth, because of the signs that were granted it to perform in the sight of the wild beast, while it tells those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the wild beast that had the sword-stroke and yet revived. 15 And there was granted it to give breath to the image of the wild beast, so that the image of the wild beast should both speak and cause to be killed all those who would not in any way worship the image of the wild beast.
16 And it puts under compulsion all persons, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the slaves, that they should give these a mark in their right hand or upon their forehead, 17 and that nobody might be able to buy or sell except a person having the mark, the name of the wild beast or the number of its name. 18 Here is where wisdom comes in: Let the one that has intelligence calculate the number of the wild beast, for it is a man’s number; and its number is six hundred and sixty-six.
Notice: No mention of an arm's length part. No mention of an associate part. Could "no part with" be construed to include a "productive working relationship with" the WTS in your opinion? How do you suppose the image of the wild beast "speaks" if not through the UN/DPI?
Translating into local language, printing and more widely distributing materials originally produced at Headquarters
Here's one the WTS is peculiarly well suited for. In fact, on one occasion they did this very thing: http://www.unhchr.ch/udhr/materials/articles.htm Notice the second article listed, published in at least 6 languages. That is a link on the official Web site for the UN High Council for Human Rights.
Organizing the celebration of UN Observances
What sort of observances? Have you researched that point so that you know it would not be an activity violating JW dogma? I found some rather quickly that are contrary to the Bible (per JW-ism).
BTW, you seem confused on how ECOSOC fits with the DPI. The fact is, it doesn't. Not at all, in any way. The ECOSOC is a separate department of the UN. An NGO affiliation to it does not automatically mean an affiliation to the UN/DPI (and vice-versa). The DPI reports directly to the Secretariat (the Secretary-General) whereas ECOSOC programs are in an entirely different branch of the UN org chart. Maybe a misunderstanding on your part explains why you kept stressing the completely irrelevant ECOSOC Resolution.
I think you have done deeper than cursory research and I applaud that. But you seem to have focused on proving the WTS right rather than discovering whether they were wrong.
Respectfully,
AuldSoul
