Is It Me Or Are There More Sex Crimes Against Kids Like Never Before?

As has been mentioned I think partly it's because sex crimes are talked about more often when I was young no one said the words molestation, rape, or sexual abuse. And pat of it is a media we have now that needs the worse of the worse crimes on air or in print to make the sell, which as much as I loathe the media some times it's a good thing to have pedophiles caught and reveled, they succeed when there is a cover-up. So we probably are hearing more about child abuse cases a diease that has been around forever.

My personal reason I think we have a lot of child abuse is because children are not valued high enough, priority needs to be placed on 'keeping' offenders out of communities, society has been too linient with letting offenders back on the streets, Tougher laws need to be inacted and child preditors need to be treated accordingly. Pedophiles are not cured and once released they re-offend and at times it's allowed to go on and on. The justice system needs to kick in and protect the ones worth protecting, not giving rights to pedophiles who gave there rights up when they chose to harm children.

I think that thanks to the media, we're hearing about them more than ever before...plus the easy access to kiddie porn via the internet has enabled more criminals to continue being the sickos they are on a broader level.

I also feel that it's no longer a taboo subject because of the internet's popularity, thus presenting this subject as one that can no longer be ignored.

Bikerchick not sure if you heard the news about this where you live: But in the mid-west in the last few months there was a case mirrored almost exactly what SVU was about last night. Nearly the same scenario only difference was the family lived in a rural area, and there was a forth person killed at the home the children were taken from. But everything was very similar, the boy was killed and the girl survived, the Father of the children was devastated as can be imagined.

Last night I cried while watching Law and Order SVU. I honestly believe that shows like that give sicko perverts ideas and add that to desire to fulfill their deviant inclinations and you've got more of 'em out seeking and getting kids.

The idea for that episode of SVU was probably from the real life event that happened last year I believe in Florida. I flipped the channel when the boy was killed. Too graphic. But the sad thing is I could not even watch, what a family actually went through and the only one to survive was the little girl who had been the object of the attack. All the rest were murdered.

These evil thoughts are nothing new to mankind. The Internet has made it easier to fulfill the evil desires. We have to get tougher on the perps. One State I forgot which one, maybe Oklahoma, has made mandatory jail sentences for first time offenders, which I hope all other States will follow. That was reported on the Court Channel.

Yes I heard the story here as it was unfolding and knew that last nights show was partially based on this unfortunate incident. So sad.

AK Not sure if Oklahoma is the only one but I am at least proud of the fact that this state ( Am in OK here) is enacting tougher laws I hope that means other states will follow as well. Part of the reason here is because we have such a high rate of sex abuse and a high rate of domestic abuse so the lawmakers are trying to crack down on offenders and the people in the state are pusshing for tougher laws, It amazes me how long it's taking for the recognisition to get something done.

Isn't the recent hysteria about the issue socially constructed? I tend to think so. Who benefits? Conservatives.

I think there was probably more child abuse in the past - it was simply covered up, or socially accepted.

Some culures think nothing of marrying off women who are pre-pubecent. And of course, Japanese warrior society saw pedastry as honourable.

It's the internet and the Catholic Priest scandal that propelled pedophilia into the spotlight.

Shark attacks have also gone way up, as have young white girls going missing. Also bird flu is soon set to kill more people each year than lightening.
