How's this for a "final point"?

1 Cor 4:6 is a favorite verse for the WT. They of course have extended the application to include not just the Bible but also the rulebooks and written interpretations that they have produced. I myself have been suspiciously viewed when referring to older publications that the local Elders were unfamiliar with, being reminded not to "go beyond what is written". Even here we have used the verse to condemn the WT's practice of adding rules and volumes of interpretation to the Bible textsas "going beyond what is written" usuallly meaning the Bible. However a cursory check with online Bible translations reveals that the verse is not easily translated nor understood. Here's why. The phrase "don't go above the line" was likely inserted by a translator as an instruction to someone in the translation process!! The effort to make this copyist note fit the larger sentence has been clever and creative.

Some translations have even dropped the phrase from the text.

The verse reads much better without the inclusion. Ironically the writer was insisting that Christians not judge others as much remained secret to human eyes not to be scrutinizing others suspicious of an "independent spirit".

I would like to add my small TWO CENTS if thats okay.

    My position goes like this......

There is no winning with brain-washed elders....because they are always right (in their minds) .

Its my decision not to go to meetings, don't pester me ... and I am more than willing to leave you alone. Case closed.

thats my two cents, my attitude, and the way I (this is personal) handle the situation that I am in.

Their current mindset is contained in the words they published in the WT a few years ago: "There's no need to spend a lot of time doing Bible research. All the research has been done for you."

Where is that? I'd like it for my files. Thanks. Blondie

I think it may be this quote.

    Watchtower 1967 June 1 p.338

“In Jehovah’s organisation it is not necessary to spend a lot of time and energy in research, for there are brothers in the organisation who are assigned to that very thing…”

    peacefulpete,

Very interesting! However, because the elders and others believe the NWT was handed down by God, I've been successful in using 1 Cor 4:6 in the NWT to take issue with terminology concocted by the WT. Elders, and most JW’s, are not deep thinkers. It doesn’t take much to throw them a curve.
