Lets say an elder that knows his bible very well, and a Priest or any high ranking person of any other Christian religion who also knows his bible very well, would get together and each with a bible in their hand.....who would come out victorious?
Who would have the "Upper Hand" an Elder or a leader of another Religion?

"leader of another religion"? My money would be on the pope!

Irregardless of what happens, the witness would think that he came out victorious.

What spectre said, except with the proper usage of "regardless" or "irrespective".

Well, I'm telling you this because last year, when the elders came over to encourage me to go back, one of the 2 elders here told me that he knocked at the door of an Evangelist or Baptist elder or whatever they call them, and this JW elder with his bible in his hand and the Evangelist with his bible in his hand, talked for over an hour, each with their own bible, and the elder told me that it didn't take long for him to show certain verses and reason with the Evangelist that the JW's were right. And the elder told me, that he won the discussion easily.

I've witnessed and been involved in many such discussions. The point of separation usually occurs over the fact that JW's see things which aren't there. For example they see Satan in the garden of Eden when the bible only mentions a snake. JW's cannot argue at all well with the bible alone. In fact most are unaware or blinded to much of what it actually says. This quickly frustrates true bible students and stretches thier patience to breaking point.

Maybe in that elders mind he won, but I highly doubt it. In order to become a pastor you need a degree (min of 4 years of training), and most pastors I know have several degrees, in fact, they always seem to be going to school for something.
That is their life work, studying the bible, not cleaning toilets or windows and preaching on the side.

So, can we say that the one who knows his bible best has the truth?
First of all, that elder told this pastor, "we will talk only about ONE subject at a time", because the way the elder was talking to me, he was jumping from one topic to another....so finally the pastor agreed to talk only about ONE topic at a time.
The elder told me, that the pastor was surprised to read what the elder showed him, and then the elder told me that this pastor didn't go to his meetings anymore, because he didn't believe in his own religion anymore...
It,s funny though, this pastor didn't become a JW...

My own personal opinion - NO. I personally don't think anyone knows what exactly "the truth" is when it comes to the bible. There are so many different opinions/views/beliefs all based on this one book. You can know the bible inside and out and twist and reason any scripture to convey what YOU want it to say/mean.

So, this elder didn't like it when the pastor skipped from one topic to another? Hhhhmmm, I've heard that is a tactic that elders use in JC's to try and trip you up. What's that old saying "turn about is fair play"? (or something to that effect!!)

JH, I think that must be one of those jw myths. I've heard basically the same story retold on various boards, my jw, and local jw's.
