I'm reading this thread from home using a Mac Computer, and I can't create a link on Simon's sofeware. However if you copy and paste the http below, you find David Willis posted something on this topic a few days ago.

Like many here I am in the process of trying to rebuild a life.
By: Leaving behind an abusive family,
Living in a garage without facilities,
Going to college (at 53),
Finding difficulty finding new friends (that have good standards),
No relatives to associate with,
(and the list goes on)
As long as I keep focused on my plan the pain, worry and anger are kept at bay.
Most people I have met do not have the foggiest how difficult this type of transition is.
I always hope I will meet in person someone who has been (or is going) through this.
It seems we could be of assistance to one another.
Reading other's (like Lady Lee) experiences give hope that it is worth all the struggle!
Love to all

E400 -- Thank you for posting, and welcome to the forum.
Twenty-years ago I was going through and doing many of the things you're doing. There were times when I didn't know the person looking back at me while shaving in the morning, and I was older than most students sitting in the college classroom. Like you, I had a plan and it took me through each day. I really think that experience has made me a better person today. I'm sure it will for you, too.
My very best to you on the journey. Many on this forum have been there and done that--you're with a community of understanding friends on the forum
