You've come to the real heart of the matter with this one!
The dubs' view of coming to christ seems to be much like studying at university - where you do a course and at the end of it you are 'qualified'. (How often have we used that term 'qualified' ! )
The scriptures however speak of it quite differently - the action is with the Father calling the individual whereas to a dub, it's the other way around - the dub has to approach the father. By way of example we see the father looking for the prodigal son and 'seeing him afar off' he runs to him. Jesus spoke this parable to teach that very point.
It's no wonder that dubs appear without a real joyful relationship with Christ - they don't know about it! All they have is a searching for knowledge - hey, isn't that what the gnostics were doing in the first century?
