To continue my analogy, then, if people in the future have faith that I cut off my finger, can they be absolved of parking tickets?

Only if your daddy is the Governor...

:I still don't get how someone could die for your sins. What could that mean? Could someone a hundred years ago have been beaten up for my crimes? Could I cut my finger off so that future generations don't have to pay parking fines? Is there something else in your belief that raises it above the absurdity of these examples?

God created the earth. He created the original perfect DNA code written, as if in stone for every living thing, then integrated the trillions of organisms to interact and reproduce in a beautiful world. The code regulates this awesome world, deviations are errors in the code, and mutations occure. Adaptation is not deviation. Genes can rearrange but not be broken or the organism malfunctions.

He created a special being with the power to be like Him, to know right from wrong, to be accutly aware of self and everything that He had done in creation. He created us different from every living creature. He gave us something the others do not have, spirit.

He being omnipotent, omnipresent and transends all time and matter knew this special creation would make bad choices. So He prepared to come to us Himself. To show us who He was, to make a way to correct the bad choices. To take the effects of that mistake on Himself.

When we acknowledge that gift He gave us, when we choose to recieve the redemtion we can then come back into that special relationship that He had wanted with us from the very beginning. What He made us for.

Thus Jesus paid the price for every sin ever committed on the earth past present and future. All one needs to do is recieve that free gift in their heart.

Yes. I believe Christ died for all mankind to reconcile us back to God. This will be attested to in its due time. Right now, only the Church of Christ really believes this in their hearts and minds. But the benefits of this reconciliation will one day be proved to all mankind. And everywhere on the earth, man will be taught about the true God and God will write his laws upon their hearts, like with the Church class. And then the scripture will be fulfilled that says "The knowledge of Jehovah shall fill the earth". Then all mankind will live in peace together. AMEN.

    I don't know.....

I believe Jesus existed but I am not sure if I believe he was sent from heaven. Maybe he was a lunatic and really believe he was God's son.

Would any of you die to save all mankind? My fiance is not a religious person and doesn't really believe in God. I guess one could say he is agnostic.

One day we were listening to something on the Radio (NPR) about Jesus and he said to me that he would die to save all mankind. And I believe him, he is such a good and selfless person.

So I ask, would any of you sacrafice yourself for all mankind? I like to think I would but I am not sure. Maybe any god natured person would. I'm just curious.

Assume he is. Does it make sense then?

    Apostate Kate:

Your post seems to be a response to mine - inasmuch you quoted me, at least. Lots of your wacky take on creationism but you don't really answer the question of how one person (or god, or angel) dying can make up for the sins of millions. Whose sense of justice needs to be satisfied by your god pretending to die?

I think so. I'd be fairly pissed off about it but if there was no other way, then I'd do it. If I was an immortal being who had created the whole problem in the first place, then I'm sure I'd have absolutely no problem pretending to die for a few days. I'm still not sure why I'd go to the trouble though. If I was God:

Being omnipotent and omniscient, I could have created beings with free will who would not have sinned.

If I was unable to do that, I could have chosen to only punish those who had done something wrong, and not the whole human race.

If I was unable to do that, I could have chosen to forgive them without pretending to die.

If I was unable to do that, I could have made the (pretend) death itself the price. Believing in it would not be necessary.

If I was unable to do that, well, what kind of god would I be?

Funky:Why does it have to make sense?

Its seems to be all personal perspective as far as I can see.. If you believe Jesus died for our sins.. then I guess he did.. If you think it is all a bunch of crock.. then I guess he was just some crazy guy who lived years ago and died for some crazy ideas...we can debate this until the cows come home...and agree to disagree.....

    LittleToe:

Why does it have to make sense?

I guess it doesn't. If a being's omnipotent, he may not have to be internally consistent. But why would anyone believe such primitive nonsense? There's far more imaginative nonsense to choose from, if you free your beliefs from the shackles of logic and evidence.

  • LittleToe

If you're omnipotent / omnipresent, how is it possible to be internally inconsistent?

Further, how/why would you attempt to prove yourself as consistent to a being that is not omnipotent / omnipresent?
