No it isn't limited to JWs
If you truly want to stop child abuse first start with the family , and be honest we all have a relative that is a pedophile.
I have spent the last 21 years helping adult survivors of sexual abuse. I have both personal and professional experience in this field. I really do know many families where they do not have a pedophile in the family. I certainly have enough pedophiles in my own family but families like mine are the exception, not the rule.
Then protect your family from stranger danger
Strangers are the least of our worries when it comes to pedophiles. The vast majority of children who are sexually assaulted know their abusers. Many are family members or friends or other persons of authority known to the family (teachers, coaches, babysitters, etc.) Of the 11 men who abused me before I was 12 years old only 1 was a stranger. All the others were either family or friends of the family - people I should have been able to trust and the least likely people that my parents would have suspected or warned me about. .
Don't just isolate to Jw's.
There are many posters on this forum who recognize the danger in the JW congregation where accused and sometimes convicted pedophiles may be known to the elders but are not known to the parents and children in that same cong. It is a dangerous assumption to say that all "brothers" or "sisters" can be trusted with our children. At the Hall no one thinks twice to allow their 8 yr old child go to the washroom alone. As long as people are uninformed about an accused pedophile in their midst the children will be in danger.
Expand and truly stop the child abuse world wide.
Believe me I have. On the radio, on TV, in the newspapers and on the internet as well as being a guest speaker at McGill and Concordia Universities, Dawson College and many social service agencies that provide services to adult survivors of sexual abuse.
most kids molested by someone become molestors them selves, what stop you from that?
You need to get your facts straight.
This is NOT correct. Most people who were abused as children do their best to protect children. While most people who abuse children have histories of being abused
the reverse is NOT true. Now for the record: I was abused by many people as a child. Almost all of the non-JW abusers were reported to the police. And not one of the abusers connected with the JW were reported to the police. The last of the JW-related abusers was caught abusing my aunt who was 12 yrs old. The elders suggested that my aunt be sent to live in another province so the abuser could stay in the home and in the cong. He was not reported to the police. So once my aunt was moved out of the house, he started to abuse me. My mother caught him abusing me and the elders told her to send me away to foster care and keep him on the home. So I was sent to foster care. And guess what. He moved on to my 5 yr old sister. AND STILL WAS NOT REPORTED to the police! If you read on this website I'm not alone. There are dozens of us here on this website who were abused within the cong and nothing was done. Many of the abused children were forced to go home with their abusers knowing he wouldn't stop and they were trapped with him. Forced by the elders into silence the vicims and their parents were gagged from telling anyone about the abuse - not the police and certainly not others in the cong who should have been warned to protect their children from a pedophile in their midst. Oh my aunt who was sent away - she committed suicide a few months later. And my little sister--- she never recovered from what he did - she committed suicide last Nov. after 40 years of trying to forget what her father did to her. And him? he ran off and married a woman who had daughters and together they took in foster kids - all girls. With no police record - thanks to the JWs there was no way to warn the police where he went. Who knows how many other kids he abused over the years.
