The Increasing Degradation of Women in the Watchtower Society.

To Lovelylil: I'm surprised that the sister who was conducting Bible studies with men wasn't counseled about the propriety of possibly being in their homes alone, unless she always took another person (probably a sister) with her.

You can't win. After all, the entire game is rigged, so we all know the outcome.

"34 let the women keep silent in the congregations, for it is not permitted for them to speak, but let them be in subjection, even as the Law says."

Joff, a relative of mine used to quote that everytime one of the women in the family made a point he didn't like. He was only half joking!

Randy, great post as always! I think that this is the biggest issue that caused me to make the decision that I had to get out, not only myself, but to raise my daughter outside the org.

I knew I'd been raised to be an "obediant wife", subserviant, and always believing that I was inferior to a man. I wanted her to grow up knowing that men and women are equal. We may have different strengths and abilities as individuals, but just because a man is a man does not make him inherently wiser, better, or more fit to lead than any woman.

It always surprised me that they didn't come out with 'new light' that only men were going to be accepted to be of the 144,000! I was always amazed that they gave women that role as well.

All I ever heard was "be a better wife and pray more." I am so glad knowing now that when I turn to my husband for support, I will never, ever hear that come out of his mouth. I am his equal in his eyes, and more importantly, in my own eyes. It took years to get here, but I wouldn't go back to the domination of the Tower for anything now.

But, I can't help but wonder about those who took it all in and actually tried to live up to an impossible standard.

I can tell you about all those who did take it to heart: they are physically sick, worn down, depressed, chronically anxious, hopeless and helpless. It is any wonder there are so many JW women on all kinds of medication? My mom takes about 100 pills a day for different ailments. Sad.

We only have a shorter life expectancy because we're always doing stunts to try to impress you gals which results in an early grave.

    Mary,

It's still a Good Ol' Boys Club that think women are second class citizens and must be kept down so that they "remember their place".

It is actually worse than many JW women realize. I want to post some juicy insight on this, but the last time I tried something close to this, about 4 years ago, I was badly trounced in unfair ways. But, I might give it a go again if I work up the nerve.

    Lovelylil,

" ... and asked several elders to take a few off her hands that were with men, they all turned her down because they were too busy to do it?"

Some of us liked to pick up such Bible Studies, because we could build up field service time without having to go door-to-door as often. When I took over such B-Studies, I would stretch the time spent to two or three hours each week (12 per month). Just having one of these type of studies plus my family study put me over 20 hours per month without counting any door-to-door time. Combined with dumping about 20 magazines per week in laundromats, and one could look real good on paper. So, when the CO came around, he would see us as "leading" the flock because our averages were higher than the Publisher average.

Just wondering ... are Muslim women treated better than JW women? JW women have no picnic, even when they have the privileges of being an elder's property. Great post Randy. Shazard - you're an idiot!

The words "women" and "Rights" simply don't exist in the same sentence in Dubdumb Land. It's still a Good Ol' Boys Club that think women are second class citizens and must be kept down so that they "remember their place".

They gotta learn it before than they can remember it.

I remember at least one field service meeting when I was little where an elder didn't show up to lead it. There was so much confusion. But all those sisters just had no idea what to do without direction from an elder--it's really quite sad.
