8 Now in the way that Jan´nes and Jam´bres resisted Moses, so these also go on resisting the truth, men completely corrupted in mind, disapproved as regards the faith. 9 Nevertheless, they will make no further progress, for their madness will be very plain to all, even as the [madness] of those [two men] became. 10 But you have closely followed my teaching, my course of life, my purpose, my faith, my long-suffering, my love, my endurance, 11 my persecutions, my sufferings, the sort of things that happened to me in Antioch, in I·co´ni·um, in Lys´tra, the sort of persecutions I have borne; and yet out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12 In fact, all those desiring to live with godly devotion in association with Christ Jesus will also be persecuted. 13 But wicked men and impostors will advance from bad to worse, misleading and being misled.

16 All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.

jw: I remember a public speaker once saying that, reading Paul's description of the attitudes that would prevail during the 'Last days', was like reading the newspaper. I suspect that he read the Daily Mail, If Paul were alive today, he would be the paper's Editor-in-Chief.

Note that the Bible warns against the "contradictions of the falsely called “knowledge" - a thorough investigation of this and the many JW related sites will demonstrate that the WTS is itself distributing such "false knowlege"

I am glad this scripture was raised. When I was a dub I tried to shy away from this passage of scripture. It is describing human nature, nothing more. Of course you can always find some anal retentive whingers who see the verse and say "YES" just what I am always saying about my neighbours" but a considered response would show a different viewpoint.

History is full of mankinds inhumanity toward others. In the past nobody seemed to care about it since everyone had to look out for themselves. Today, we are made aware of problems in other parts of the world . Note the "Make Poverty History" campaign last summer , note the massive charity response to the tsunami, etc etc. Could you imagine social evils such as transportation of slaves from Africa to the Americas going on today? or the forced employment of children as was practiced in Charles Dickens' day [this was only a few decades before CT Russel's time].

The world has changed. In many ways it has changed for the better with people now made aware of a social conscience. Of course there are many examples of terrible things happening today , but people are just people - that's all.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - open any Awake magazine and find anything positive about anyone else but WTBS, if there is anything even borderline negative with anything at all in this "old world" WTBS will blow it up beyond proportions and then make sure you know about it. When I read those indicator of the last days the first thing that came to mind was the middle ages and the greedy feudal lard system, then I went farther back to the vikings, then I came forward to the desolations of Ghengis Khan throught Eurasia, then I thought of the destruction of entire civiliastions from the tip of South America to the Artic circle by the avericious Spanish followed by the British. The last days according to the NT have come and gone hundred times over. Forget it, all we have is eachother.
