I thought that would get your attention.. actually... my brother is alive.

Before I got involved, strongly. with the JWs. My brothers was sent off and is now overseas in Iraq with his Platoon (he is in the army). One bible study my JW teacher and I were dicussing the military and how they do not join the military. She knew about my brothers deployment, but I said. "Yeah" I shrugged and did a half smile "My brother is in Iraq." To this she replied "The devil has I tight hold on him then, doesn't he"-- I looked at her and agreed that the Devil infact had hold of my brother. I don't know why I agreed and maybe I shouldn't have. She continued to tell me about how JWs had held meetings in the prison, because so many JW (during WW2) were in prison. I think that is kinda funny.

Anyway, what I want to know is this. (and please be open and honest)... what do you think she thinks of my brother? Does she want me to think of him in a certain way? What if he dies in Iraq and I am still studying with her, what will she think? What will she say if that happens? Thanks.... Eli

Why do you care what she thinks about your brother? What business is it of hers?

I would stop wasting your energy caring what some dim-wit JW thinks about your life, or the lives of any of your family members. As for what she likely thinks, I doubt she cares about anything save for wasting precious hours of your life peddling he watchtower corporation rags and using you to increase the hours she can list on her "publishers record".

Yikes, that is a harsh way to get our attention. Enough said there.

As for what JWs think of people serving in the military, they are dead set against it and look down upon people who are in the military or have family in the military. If you are looking for people to be sympathetic towards your brother and what he is having to endure on a daily basis, you need to look elsewhere, as JWs will not show you any sympathy. I hope that your brother returns safe.

er, since when would it matter what she thinks?

That was totally unnecessary, you already had our attention for the last few days you've been here.

Why do you care what's she thinks about your brother? I'm sure your brother doesn't care, he has more important things on his mind like staying alive.

Besides don't you know that jws consider those on the outside (us worldly folks) to be "walking dead people" since we are supposedly in the control of Satan?

Your brother IS YOUR BROTHER. NOT her brother. . If you are having doubts about JW's then maybe you should take a break from your JW teacher so you can think for yourself.

"One bible study my JW teacher"

Just to clarify another point, a JW having a "bible study" with you is not, in any way, shape or form a "teacher". They are "salespeople" akin to Avon or AMWAY, promoting

a specific product, produced by a corporate entity in Brooklyn, NY. "Teaching" is a didactic process that requires a creative, active input from both parties. A JW conducting a bible study

(which ironically uses a "bible" translated according to their own corporate agenda supplanted with their own factory produced literature) is merely regurgitating verbatim the pre-

programmed ideas and thoughts of the sponsoring corporation.

This is the first of your posts here that I've seen. Very bad taste. -1,000,000 points in my book.

First of all, I think the title of your post was a mean thing to do to everyone here. Attention-grabbing, yes, but rather unkind. Many of us having been hurt here have rather tender hearts -- hearts that reach out to others' who are aching, as we were ready to do for you because of the post title. To quote a Geico caveman, "not cool" But I digress...

About what your study conductor thinks about your brother -- what does it matter? I could give a rat's butt about what anyone else thinks of what my own brother says, does or is. He's MY brother, other peoples' opinions do not matter to me. I love and support him unconditionally, as family should.

JW are all about neutrality, not being involved in anything political, war, nationalistic etc so obviously your brother's being in the Army as well as his deployment to a war would certainly be unsupported by not just your "teacher" but every JW. They would consider themselves superior as they have the TRUTH about everything, including the proper place for earthly kingdoms vs heavenly. and so on. As for whether or not the "Devil has your brother" -- why do you think the Devil does have a tight hold on your brother? If you answered "yes" to your teacher without realizing quite why you answered, do you not think that that is perhaps a conditioned response by you to PLEASE your teacher...? To agree without thinking? That, although you will deny it, is quite typical of brainwashing...

Elizabeth, that is not the best way to get our attention, which you have anyway.

I don't really think you need to ask what your study conductor thinks of your brother, you should be able to work it out from her reply. Is that all she said? No concern for his safety as, after all, he is your brother and you love him.

Actually, as far as she and any other active jw is concerned, your brother is in the same position as anyone not in the wts. They are all dead in a spiritual sense as far as jws are concerned, soon to be birdfood when armageddon strikes.
