I spoke with a "loyal" person with strong connections to the Katrina rebuilding oversight. They claimed that

the Society has spent well over 100 million bucks on rebuilding. I was surprized by the size of the amount. No wonder they're

    hurting financially.

I understand hurricane season is about to start in June again!!!

Is this an insurance ploy by the WTBTS!? Are they on to a sure fired thing here?

What are they rebuilding? I thought that many JWs haven't returned to NO, so they weren't repairing homes or KH's. Now, if they're including the hurricane Rita damage, which covered western LA & eastern TX, then I can see how it would add up to $100 M.

I also believe it to be a publicity stunt! Because, they never help out JWs in poverty stricken countrys with even the basics of life. So what's with rebuilding in New Orleans, except in the hope that the world press will say, 'wow! How wonderful the WTBTS really is!!!' MY Ass!!

If they spent a 100 million bucks, they collected 150 million.

I think whoever their source was "exaggerating" or didn't know crap and wanted to seem important.

I bet they won't tell you who said it so you can confirm it.........

Official WTS stance on rumors; rarely practiced. The most prolific source of "rumors" in the WTS are Bethelites.

Hence, if you hear a story and cannot pinpoint the source of it, think for yourself and be sure of your facts before you pass it on to others. Remember, "in the abundance of words there does not fail to be transgression, but the one keeping his lips in check is acting discreetly." (Proverbs 10:19) Do not be a channel for rumor, but rather, be a "dead end."

WTS is self-insured. Many large corporations are.

I am quite sure that the Society will indeed get a huge charitable rebate, i tend to agree with uniformed when you said

If they spent a 100 million bucks, they collected 150 million.

there are a lot of JW's from this area, who are in New Orleans this week, helping to build houses and feed the workers. Several women I used to be friends with, have gone to cook for the crews.

Maybe they count the cost of labor, if they had had to pay for it, as part of their contributions.
