Boo hoo... let's all just ;pander to the least common denominator then. I'll bet you're the same sort of person who complains when your kid gets red marks on his papers because it makes him feel bad

That's exactly what these popularity contest do - pander to the least common denominator.

Red marks on papers? Go to hell... nobody is grading here.

If you want to tell someone they are doing a good job you can just as easily send them a private message.

I made my comment. The dogs bark and the parade marches on.

What really is sickening is the fact that these people that always show up on the "preferred poster list" never repudiate this whole process. They know in their hearts that this is discouraging to the "least" of the common denominators.

Yes, let's say that the people who don't have the gumption to interact, but who would rather sulk on the sidelines, complaining about how downtrodden they are, are morally superior.

    Typical bourgeois sentiments at play.

I'm sorry that threads like this aren't happy-making for you. Get over it. This isn't grade school.

I know where you're coming from, proplog, but I disagree. I, myself, never come up on the "most popular" threads (btw, I was always the girl who played alone w/her imaginary friends on the playground and NEVER got picked for sports--people would fight over who would have to take me lol!!!). It does not affect my life one wit. I am quite in love with mySelf and that is all that matters (and I still have my imaginary friends--they love me!! no matter what!!)

The first person I noticed was animal. He was on the board a lot at that time, so he showed up everywhere. I was new to discussion boards. I was trying to figure out how a JW could end up so wild and crazy-looking!

Do some research on the word "bourgeois".

You might find that it doesn't fit your defense of "elitism"

proplog2 Always to the point, and un-biased...Not, just kidding, I,d say Flyinghighnow, she caught my attention with her sincerity and caring attitude. Oh i almost forgot That Gumby Bastard too, and yes Gumby, we will lift that bowl. Too many names to type (I'm challenged that way) But I enjoy all (maybe not agree with all) the posters here, many insightful views and opinions and intellgence. I'm afaid to post sometimes for fear of revealing my ignorance. lol But this site has been very helpful for me, thanks everyone!!! Acadian

I thought the thread was a waste of space until Kasar was kind enough to name me. Thank you for that unexpected delight. Thank you for changing my life.

I now see the value and importance of this wonderful thread.

Normally I'd agree with you. I detest the popularity threads.

This one is different, however, as it refers to those who made an impact on you when you first joined JWD.

I confess that I rambled a bit, on my post. If I had to name just a couple that made immediate impressions it would probably be Englishman and HillaryStep.

Since I haven't seen either for months, as is the case with many on my original list, how does that qualify as a popularity contest? They simply aren't around to receive any adulation.

Of course part of the problem is that I'm an old fart, who's hung around here far too long

    Brigid:

It DOES affect you. You have chosen a particular method of dealing with this sort of thing that many alienated individuals use. It is an adaptation. It doesn't confront reality head on.

It is natural to have favorites. It is our evolved animal natures to do that. HOWEVER, can't we transcend such distractive tendencies. Many who are reading this will agree with me.

BUT they won't speak their mind because they fear accusations of ENVY, SOUR GRAPES, LOOSER.

I don't give a shit about those accusations.

I am still surprised at the acquiessense of the GREAT ONES
