While waiting for the 'Toot Your Own Horn' thread to be created, I'll add my 2 cents on the 'popularity' topic...

It's a little sad that this thread got hijacked with the (tedious) detractors. My take on the purpose of the thread was not so much popularity or notoriety, but something else entirely. I took it to mean a connection of sorts. Some poster or posters at the time that each of us joined hooked us. Someone or something gave us tug to stick around or come back and check again.

Some of those posters have moved on. Some are still here. I found it like listening to a songwriter tell about who influenced him/her. It helps me see a little more texture and depth to a person when I know who they looked to for inspiration, encouragement, insight, - or who outraged them.

I didn't take this thread to be about popularity at all. More about inspiration and connectivity.

Now I'm off to find that Horn Tootin' Thread...

    -Aude.

Edited to Add: Also, In reading some of the names from years past, it's reminded me of a few people I'd chatted with and since lost touch with. Some I've gone back and searched a few of their threads. Thank you to whoever it was that started this one.

Leolaia. I loved the way she handed Scholar his head on a platter whenever they got into a historical (hysterical) discussion.

A link to a thread, which turned out to be a series, by seven006 brought me here (just lurking at first). Then I got caught in fascinating Bible discussions with Leolaia and peacefulpete, enjoyed the wit of hillarystep, Valis, Gumby, shotgun, and so many others... waved at a few kin souls along the way, but let's stay on topic: the beginning, over 2 years ago.

I used to print out threads to leave for my active JW wife. One of the ones I remember that made a big difference was by AlanF regarding a couple of Governing Body members. One was gay and the other was a pedophile. Funny thing, I also remember when I first joined my user name was on the same page as Bendrr's and I used to marvel at the idea he had 1,500 posts (or whatever it was). Never thought I'd have that many.

I loved the crazy fights between LDH and Fred Hall. Those were pretty darn funny!

I looked for Billygoat's posts all the time. I enjoyed Farkel's music.

I miss Francois and LB the most.

I liked Prisca's posts too, even if she said a lot of things I didn't agree with.

And I most anticipated You Know's rubbish. Believe it or not I followed that fool around for years!

Howdy! I saw Mario and his heartwrenching tale. I read it for a whole night or so. Many tears and very tired later, I decided this was a board I could talk to. MsMcDucket-That was a very bad day! Thanks for understanding!
