    vitty,

i understand your frustration. you need to think about a couple of things though. first, this question is a constant on every jw related forum on the internet. and yes many people are bored to death we it. our knowledge of this subject does not benifit us and our lack of such knowledge does no harm as far as i can see.

secondly, there is not one active, true to the org, jw that cares even the smallest amount what you know. or what you think. or what you believe. or what your concerns are for their well being. you cannot change ignorant people with facts, and this is really sad when they are family.

and finally...if it weren't for fluff threads some of us wouldn't have a post history at all.

hope you have a better day

Now, here are two words that should never be in the same sentence as they have nothing in common in any way and are a completely foriegn thought and they are:

It would also involve Jeremiah 25:10-11:

11 This whole country will become a desolate wasteland, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

12 "But when the seventy years are fulfilled, I will punish the king of Babylon and his nation, the land of the Babylonians, [a] for their guilt," declares the LORD, "and will make it desolate forever.

    Simple.

    1. Country becomes wasteland.

    2. 70 years = Service to King of Babylon by "these nations"

    3. When 70 years are done, the King of Babylon and Babylonia are punished.

If your question is "what do the 'seventy years' actually mean in the OT?" the main reason why it cannot be "kept simple" is that it is not a matter of historical chronology but text interpretation. Each one of the OT texts which refer to "seventy years" must be assessed for itself, and when it is one cannot escape the conclusion that the meaning of this phrase varies greatly in different contexts.

    Your reply needs an adjustment:

    1. Country becomes a wasteland

    2. 70 years = service to King of Babylon by 'these nations' and Judah

    3. When 70 years are done, the King of Babylon and Babylonia are punished by perpetual desolation

Broadly speaking I agree with you that it is a matter of interpretation but it is historical because it is an important piesce of biblical and Jewish history. Further, Josephus the Jewish historian had much to say about the subject and the Jonsson hypothesis devotes and entire lengthy chapter in GTR to its interpretation and implivation for biblical chronology.

Celebrated WT scholars after considering all of the facts have concluded that this period is one singular historical period introduced by Jeremiah and referred to by Ezra and Daniel. The contexts for each of the seventy year principal texts proves their unambiguous relationship to each other.

Jeremiah introduced the seventy years to the first group of exiles in Babylon as prophecy before the actual commencement of this historical period. Some years later the second group of exiles as a result of Nebuchadnezzer destroying Jerusalem came to Babylon leaving a desolate and depopulated land so now began the commencement of the seventy years and its countdown. Tick tock..Tick tock.....
