I spent the whole time gritting my teeth and saying WE DONT SPEAK LIKE THAT. I thought - cheapskates how hard would it be to record it in an English voice, or are we really an American religion.Pathetic little gripe really, but it did irritate me.
Me too....the voices should be regionalised I think to make it more appealing (laughable);

Daniel, I feel for you, having to sit through 3 days of that crap. Thank goodness I won't be doing it this year, or ever again. I doubt you were alone in being aghast at the co's remark about liberated women.

thank for that update and the good laugh at "women are so liberated they don't know what to do with themselves", well, they can contact me and I can give them plenty of ideas on what to do.
My life in the WT was so mind numbingly boring, I was depressed and on medication. That is because I had to surpress my natural desires to write, paint, play a musical instrument and all the other things I did prior to the WT, just so I could have more time for the mindless dribble of the meetings. Having two college degrees, trust me, it was not easy to sit there sometimes and listen to the sheer stupidity of it. Or, to take marriage, family or spiritual advice from some of the complete idiot elders at the kh. Sorry for the strong language but some of the elders really deserve being called idiots because the things they teach are so anti-christianity it is not funny. If they want to teach, they should make sure of all things first. Here are some things that used to make me want to scream:
We had one elder that said from the platform that women should make sure they don't irritate their hubbys too much or the hubby's may feel compelled to hit them. And here another doozie: if your hubby hits you, it may be because you are not submissive enough, so try being more submissive to him. I let my hubby know that day of the don't compel your hubby to hit you comment, Christian or not, if he even tried to do this, his face will be hitting the cast iron frying pan! Oh well, guess I am not submissive enough, huh?
Anyway, looking back I really did not know what I was getting into but am so glad I am out. I have resumed most of the activities I have done in the past and have become more spiritual and family oriented since leaving. I have a great ministry work, new church I love, and have reconected with old friends. Having the time is great to experience new things too. My life is so busy and full now and not with mindless, robotic activities that it only took about six months to not need antidepressants any more.
Thanks again, I will be laughing about the women thing all day!
Alas, it only consisted of about ten people dressed in "middle east colors" with towels on their heads, standing around, waving their arms about wildly, miming the over-acted vocals we all know and hate. No action.

Yeah, those were the days -- roughly 30 years ago, the 'dramas' were the highlight of the convention for the Yutes.

I might have been quite young, but I sure do remember that one. Was it in the mid 80s?
I don't recall if I went last year to the DC or in 2004, but the last DC drama had the posessed woman walking across the stage with her arms 'straight out' like that of a zombie.
Then she's starts speaking in her demonic voice. Trust me,, it was very creepy.
The part that really pissed me off is they had a scene where someone was being whipped and afterwards he had a shirt on with cuts and red marks all over to indicate blood.
My sister's child was sitting near me and asked me,, Is he really bleeding? Is he dead? Come on! was that type of 'bloody' scene necessary?
I'm rambling now, but yeah, those dramas are such a waste of my time. Not looking forward to this year as I'll be visiting my family and attending theirs.

when something particulary rousing was said by the speaker and came through the speakers above the stalls, I would say "praise Jehoover!" in a old man's voice

I absolutely LOVED that one......we had that one in the late 70's and it was our congregation that did it. My dad was in it too. Jezebel and her hand maiden had THE COOLEST costumes. Lots of chiffon and sparkly stuff. I totally wanted to be them!!!!
There was a mattress behind the "window" that they tossed her on. But think about it....one brother actor had to grab her by the wrists and one brother actor had to grab her by the ankles. Pretty racy. I wonder if that would happen today.
Whoever the character my dad played (maybe Elijah?) got hit in the head...and I remember my mom putting lipstick on a handkerchief to mimic blood. Ahhhh, the theatrics!!!!
