One of our son's house burned down last night. They are all fine. His wife heard something in a skylight she said, and got up, called to Steve and he found the roof engulfed in flames. They all got out safely. They said the fire marshall found it started in an electrical "junction" in the attic. The house is totally destroyed, and the roof is gone. It's such a shame. They worked so hard on that house over the last two years, completely remodeling, brand new kitchen, new appliances, granite countertops, all new carpet, all new drywall, new doors and moulding, and had just gotten their new living room furniture two weeks ago. The rest of their furniture was all new too. They had held off on the living room until they found exactly what they wanted. Steve hadn't connected the new smoke alarms yet, so it's a good thing she heard something. The Red Cross brought in a trailer for them to stay in temporarily and they are waiting for the insurance adjuster now. Such a shock too. At least they are all safe and they have insurance. After I learned everyone was safe, I thought of all of their photos and my daughter in law's scrapbooks. Just found out they were all in the downstairs which is wet, but those items are safe. Everything else is a loss though.

Life Is Grand
Oh my God, that is so terrible, but as you say, you just have to be thankful they are all safe.
All the other "things" can be replaced.

Thank God they are all safe. My prayers are with them. My family also lived thru a fire and lost everything, when I was young. It is a terrible situation. I am sure they are happy they are safe but it still stinks!

Glad they are all safe! Will the lack of functioning fire alrms negate their insurance?

That's terrible! I'm glad they are all safe. It's a shame about the material things but they can all be replaced. My family lost everything in a house fire so I know the devastation and the tole it takes on families, but no loss of life is really the important thing.
We to have limited family pictures, just what relatives gave to us from what they had. I hope all of theirs can be saved.
Let us know if there is anything we can do to help, we're close enough.

I'm so sorry Mulan, but at the very least, everyone is okay. That's what is important.

OMG A shock indeed
Everyone is safe and that's the main thing.
As for the wet photos etc: it might be good (when they can get at them) to try to separate and dry them.
