I was told by my therapist (a man) that men do not lust after overweight (fat if you will) women. They just don't he says. men want a slim woman. They will be friends with you, but if it is lust you are looking for, he says men don't lust for heavy women. Is this true?
No - he's an idiot!
When did this happen? Most men today will NOT ask a woman out, because they're too intimidated by her good looks (or they find her unattractive). Women can't win in either situation. If you like someone, the best way to find out if they like you back is to ASK THEM OUT!!!!
Excuse me but men ask me out quite a bit. They also asked me out when I was with an on-line dating service. One of the guys I am dating says that he asked me out because he thought I was cute, intelligent and seemed like fun. And most importantly, I laughed at his jokes. We have a good time but he isn't the one and so I do not date him exclusively.
I'm from the old school of dating. It is rare that I ask a man out although I will occasionally. Mostly I flirt and the rest follows its natural course.

Your therapist is silly. Of course you can get a date. Not all men are attracted to slim women. My ex husband loved overweight women. Why he married me when I was a size 4, I'll never know.

Hi Robdar! Me too. Both times in my life I have even tried to make a move...well turned out disasters. Makes me think that I should not change too much with the times. My girlfriends and I go around on this a bit. I join them once a year, maybe twice for a drink or a party because they have a much different approach to men. I personally could have lived without the humiliation of being turned down. How do you guys do it?

Hi Sparkplug! I agree--no need to change. Especially if it works. Any guy that I've asked out has fizzled after a couple of dates. Any man that ever dated me and eventually asked me to marry him pursued me first.

A younger friend of mine met a guy at a bar and invited him back to her apartment. He came over, they smoked a doob and when she made a sexual advance, the guy asked her what she was doing. He then told her that guys are supposed to make the first move. He also told her that she turned him off by coming on to him like that. My girlfriend was stunned because she has read in every women's magazine that men find it a turn on for a woman to make the first move.

Right! It is really bad when you are shy and it took all your courage to try....eww I hate that. Even worse, I am very outgoing because if I were not that way at first I would shrink in a shell and just stay there in group situations for shyness gets the best of me. So how come when I am just being myself people think I am hitting on them when I would not know how to hit on someone to save my life.

I guess because it is the only game in town... When I was dating, I had a lot of girlfriends and a few emotional break-ups, but I got over it, dusted myself off and tried again. I've been married quite happily for over 17 years now, so I suppose it works.

I definitely don't agree with this. If a woman looks like a slut she will be treated like one. The men that don't give a damn are the ones that a woman should stay away from unless she wants to be treated like a slut.
