If memory serves, I read once that there was a convicted (suspected?) sex offender in the area that the feds thought was the prime suspect but that he died a few months (a year?) afterward.
I think the mother was wrong to be a stage mother and put her daughter through so many beauty pagents at such a young age, but she was no murderer, nor was she an accomplice to murder.
My gut feeling is a family member did it.

My OPINION is that her older brother Burke did it and that John and Patsy made a conscious decision to protect their living child (even fabricating evidence) since nothing they could do would bring JonBenet back. <--
That's what I thought at the time also, But I can't remember what details made me think that way.
I don't believe the Ramsey's killed their daughter. They were cleared in 2000 by a grand jury. DNA testing has failed to find any one suspect. I feel sorry for the father. He lost a child (daughter?) from a previous marriage in an accident of some sort, then JonBenet, and now Patsy. I believe a family "friend" or neighbor did it.

That was the conclusion I came to as well. It's the only explanation that makes any since.
