Purple,
Glad that you resurrected this thread.
Ian Anderson in full flight. Jethro Tull are not a band at the top of my 'must revisit' list, but I defy anybody not to get involved in this music - the level of energy is overwhelming. Anderson has to be one of the greatest entertainers in rock music and knows exactly what his audience wants.

Martin Barre on the guitar.

I have always found the Dutch generally to be an admirable people. Hardworking, loyal and honest to the point of uncomfortable reality. Here is Jan Akkerman playing a jam with Focus in the early 90's. I cannot help but think how the Dutch character is reflected in this music. Just good solid stuff.

What no Hip-Hop "artists" on your list? Oh that's right, they don't play!!!
Try "Jessica" Duane Allman and Dickie Betts. A guitar assasination (didn't see them on your obvious list with Hendrix, Clapton and Beck) As a matter of fact, Duane and Dickie rarely get their proper "due" as virtuosos.
Where's Chris Rea? try the song "Daytona" if you like blues/rock/southern combo. Nice solid riffs. He has a crappy voice but the guitar work makes up for it. You can go from there with him.

FreeBird.... ....Live@Oakland. 1977
I was a southern girl 18 years old.........I loved this song. Knew every note, would press my body close up to the speaker...........after smoking a big fat joint, and just feel the notes go thru me. Memories, so glad we grow up ~~~~~~~and never change in other ways.
I know DantheMan hates it

lol, I don't hate Freebird. It just goes on way too long. Like the Service Meeting.
Southern rock rocks. Can't wait to hear the new Kings of Leon CD coming out.
