I remember reading about the generation after1844 will not pass away I cant give a refference for it but goes to show the witnesses pinched it from the SDAs. these days the generation thing in the SDAs would be just a sick joke.

How can they say that "We Never spoke in the name of Jehovah" when they published this in the Aweake? --VM44

I remember it well because I was asked before the convention, to be, with the Elder, to do the reveiw at the service meeting the week after the convention.
Also the agitation of the Elder when he was at my house the night before the review. Always stuck in my mind, it really threw him.
Yes there also was the change in "sheep and goats" doctrine.
When an item appears in a Watchtower later in the year, especially a study item, you usually find that it was a talk given previously at the convention of that year.

In the case of the 1914 generation change there was no talk at the DC that year on it. JWs found out when they got the November 1, 1995 WT in the mail. Some got it sooner (remember Bethelites get theirs hot off the press). People were buzzing all around at the meetings that faill showing me their WT asking me what it meant. Of course, it went over the head of many of the rank and file...didn't see it as a change.

The ultimately 80 year generation has now become indefinitely long yet surprisingly the WTS is still trying to keep up the sense of urgency as if the 80 year generation concept is still going, smart mind tricks given that the older R&F will have a habit of thinking that way after having believed it for so long.
As for the psychological pressure exerted for decades (the end is coming very soon talk to your neighbour or be guilty of his blood ie you will also die) it's just forgotten. -

I guess I slept through it then.

I remember that there seemed to be a buzz that year at the convention because of some "new light".
There were a couple of people in our hall that caught the change in the talks and talked about it a bit. When the WT came out later, they were the ones saw it and immediately recognized it as what was talked about at the convention. They then pointed it out to others in the congregation.
I remember it because some people said that the ones who caught the change at the convention misunderstood and were spreading false information. The WT proved them right however as they were proud to show those who doubted their listening skills. The sad part was, that no one saw through the whole thing and had that "hey, wait a minute" moment where clarity breaks through and they question the message and the messanger.

*** g69 5/22 p. 15 What Future For the Young? ***
If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the "last days" in 1914, Jesus foretold: "This generation will by no means pass away untill add these things occur." -- Matt. 24:34.
Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish, if not actually gone!

That change or “new light” did my family. My sister told me that the Sunday WT study was very awkward. The conductor quickly covered the paragraph blaming the brotherhood for speculating. She said she was glad I wasn’t there because I would have been annoyed about it. I which I had known about that Wt article, this was one study I would not have missed. I was upset with my sister for not telling my about this.
Later I meet a d’f brother who wanted to get reinstated because of the sort time left for this generation. He was shocked when I showed him the article, but got reinstated anyway. Today he denies it just like 1975.
Can’t wait for the next “Big New Light” to come. They will surly loose lots of members again.
