'it passed away' lol The similarity between wts and Orwells 1984 are scary. a very strong control of information. The one born in knew exactly what you were saying, the one recruited after 95 prob never heard about it, its true. I remember tellimg a schoolmate when I was about 12 about it and stressing the end can come at anytime. Im now ebarrassed that freind will ask me what happened.that lie directly affects me, like the UN propaganda I distributed, they made me look like an idiot.

“Eager to see the end of this evil system, Jehovah’s people have at times speculated about the time when the “great tribulation” would break out, even tying this to calculations of what is the lifetime of a generation since 1914. However we “bring a heart of wisdom in.” Not by speculating about how many days or years make up a generation, but by thinking about how we “count our days” in bringing joyful praise to Jehovah. (Psalm 90:12) Rather than provide a rule for measuring time, the term “generation” as used by Jesus refers principally to contemporary people of a certain historic period, with their identifying characteristics”

“Is anything to be gained, then, by looking for dates or by speculating about the literal lifetime of a “generation”? Far from it! Therefore, in the final fulfilment of Jesus’ prophecy today, “this generation” apparently refers to the people of the earth who see the sign of Christ’s presence but fail to mend their ways. Does our more precise viewpoint on “this Generation” mean that Armageddon is further away than we had thought? Not at all.” (Watchtower – 1 November 1995 - Pages 17,19,20)

Did you notice that the Society did not say – We have at times speculated, but “Jehovah’s people have at times speculated.” The blame for a lifetime of misinterpreting the scriptures and making false prophecies in God’s name is shared with the membership. These are the same members that were threatened with excommunication if they ever dared to challenge the pronouncements coming from the Society, who claim to be “God’s mouthpiece.”

Having spent the last hundred years warning their members and millions of non-members that the world as we know it is about to end, the Society eventually admits that the single verse of scripture that they have based this prediction on is now to be understood differently. Surely this means that Armageddon is further away than they had thought? According to the Watchtower Society “Not at all!”

Is this an honest way to deal with such a fundamental shift of belief?

Many of the membership had built their lives around the time-scale dictated to them by the Society. Some had not planned for retirement having been categorically assured that they would never reach old age. Others had sacrificed their careers and family life to give greater service. What now?

The Society are fond of assuring its members that God will one day reward them for the sacrifices they have made. They quote from the Bible “for he is not unrighteous so as to forget the love that you showed for his name.” But is it showing love for someone’s name to spread false promises in their name and make it an object of ridicule?

In the 20 years before 1995 the word generaion appeared an average of 40 times per year in the Watchtower.

In 1995 it appeared 149 times

In the 10 years since 1995 the word generation has appeared in the Watchtower only 23 times per year. (8 times in 2000)

So it seems the generation teaching is slowly becoming irrelevant.

More than shared - it was given. There's never any "we" - it's always someone else - no matter how far you dig into the wtbts, there won't be anyone who admits to response-ability.

I'd also like to say - how can people read the bible, and then follow a group that has been proven to give false prophecy and continually says "the time is at hand" ??????? wtf ????????

Yep, old light dontcha know. It's too embarassing to talk about, and too depressing to remind themselves that they've been expecting the end any day now for 120 years.

Without announcement the masthead of the November 8, 1995 Awake changed:
Before November 1995Why AWAKE! Is Published ...Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away. After November 1995Why AWAKE! Is Published ... Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure world that is about to replace the present wicked, lawless system of things.

(changes over the years leading to 1995 in the masthead)

    1. Since the late 1940's AWAKE! magazine had been promising the "sure hope for the establishment of a righteous New World" on page 2 of each issue.
    2. Then in 1964 it added the assurance that this would happen in this generation: "...reflecting sure hope for the establishment of God's righteous new order in this generation."
    3. In 1975 it became a promise of God: "...the Creator's promise of a new order of lasting peace and true security within our generation." (January 8, 1975)
    4. In 1982 the Watchtower Society changed the prophecy on page 2 of each AWAKE! issue to include the same thought about 1914. It was no longer a vague "our generation" that would see the world's end, but the generation that saw the events of 1914: "...the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new order before the generation that saw the events of 1914 C.E. passes away." (January 8, 1982)
    5. January 8, 1987, when AWAKE!'s statement of purpose was moved to page 4. Starting with that issue, the 1914 generation prophecy was dropped entirely, without explanation.
    6. March 8, 1988 the statement was mysteriously reinstated, without explanation "...the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away"
    7. November 8, 1995 Awake! "...the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world that is about to replace the present wicked, lawless system of things."

    YES!

The Watchtower has NO BACKBONE! They can`t even admit it when they screwed up. It`s sickening!
