It's ironic that some of the most inconsistent ethical decisions come from those who believe they are doing God's will.

The US Medical Research Community will pay a hefty price for the ignorant idiocy of bush. Right on dumya!!! Better to protect a clump of undifferentiated cells in a Petri dish, then perform research that could potentially lead to cures for hundreds of devastating diseases!

I already know 2 Academic Researchers from the States that have moved to either Canada or Europe, where this mindless ban on stem cell research does'nt restrict scientific discovery and progress. To the asses who voted for this moron, I hope you have a good answer to the people suffering from debilitating neurological and other diseases whose suffering and misery will be prolonged by the tyranny of this fundamentalist d**kwad. The States will soon fall far behind the rest of the stem cell research community if this bush ban continues to impede research in the States.

And for the Pope's spokesman: any biologist worth his salt knows that adult stem cells dont have nearly the capacity for differentiation as do embryonic stem cells. In addition, once adult stem cells are plated in culture, their differentiation is limited at a much faster rate, as is their likelihood of transformation into a cancer cell phenotype. The Pope knows jack-shit about stem cell biology or science, and has no business whatsoever trying to influence scientific research policy in the US, or any other country.

Reminds me of the recently published book: Flight of the Creative Class.
