I remember listening to a radio program in the mid-70's that the society aired on a NYC station. It wasn't publicized much but I stumbled on it one morning (Sunday's, I think) and would wake up early to listen while still in bed.

I would be about 15 minutes of a skit and then about 15 minutes of lecture.

Really enjoyed it at the time.

Too expensive. They can barely manage to keep up with their magazines. Remember: layoffs, monthly Awakes?

    AudeSapere,

You are right. I had about thirty of those on reel to reel that I put on cassette. (They were from a circuit library being dumped years ago. A relative rescued them and had me put them on cassette.) I think I threw them out. They were fun to listen too, some of the principles on how to treat others were quite upbuilding. Honestly, I liked the way they treated each other. Some were hilarious. They had canned Bible lectures on them as well. They sounded as if they were being read by amatuers more often than not. If I have them I might put them on CD. I only like the dramas, they were about 15 minutes and were almost a soap opera of sorts.

I'll have to look for them. I really think I threw them out when I decided that cassettes and Watchtower crap belonged in the circular file.

    Will see.

I caught it once in Toronto, off a Buffalo NY station. I tried to get a copy, but the Canadian branch threatened the tv station with legal action if the did not immediately destroy all copies of the tape. There was an 800 number attached to it, but I was unable to call it from the great north.

There was a JW-produced 30-min TV show in the 1960's. There was also a taped radio version of it. I remember that it was my job to try to take the tape around to the radio stations and try to get them to play it.

One DJ guy that I knew from flying told me "off the record" that this program was so primitive a self-promotion that it was an embarrassment. He was of the opinion that religious broadcasts on their station needed to have at least a veneer of "community benefit".

The TV program was also a torture to watch, even though we were JWs.

I think this kind of thing is sporadically repeated, but they never had the media sophistication to carry it off.

I recall several times they had a movie from the tower fest... one was on bethel and the farm in NY... the voice over sounded like they picked

the nerdiest guy on site... worse than the school lecture slide show voice overs.

The only reason for the WT$ to not use TV or radio:

Money: Why should they spend millions of dollars on airwaves when they have a more effective tool the volunteer mission force. Using TV or radio would put a severe dent in there numbers. How many of you would have stopped going D-T-D if the TW$ had infomercials on the air?
