I dunno, jayhawk. I like beards, I like your present beard, I even like longer/bushier beards...but a ZZ top beard? Not a fav. I like the group, but those long, scraggly beards are kind of creepy.

I wonder if men would like kissing a bearded lady?
No tis a woman...had 2 children.
Born Josephine Boisdechene in Switzerland, Madame Clofullia had a two-inch beard at age eight. She gained her namesake by marrying a French painter with whom she had two children. Madame Clofullia provided Barnum with free publicity when a museum patron, William Charr, took her to court claiming that she was really a man in July 1853. Thanks to Barnum's testimony as well as statements made by physicians, Madame Clofullia's father, and Monsieur Clofullia that attested to the fact that Madame Clofullia was indeed biologically female, the case was dismissed. Notice that Madame Clofullia is pictured in traditional Victorian dress, the epitome of nineteenth-century womanhood.
My man dyes his beard and keeps it short.

Creepy? Who saw Disney's "Sword in the Stone" and thought Merlin was cute? (Or apparently Disney's "Merlin the Enchantor" in other lands...)

Blondie, I stand corrected. Obviously if my wife objects later on to the beard growth, I'll cut it back. But if she makes that request, I still win the bet!
And in this case it is not how I play, it is if I win that matters.

Ok.. I've read through all of this, and haven't seen any remarks from guys who have grown beards longer than an inch or two.
I decided to grow a beard last February, and kept it until recently... shaving it only a couple of weeks ago. I can tell you that my beard was longish... about 4 - 6 inches.
It ain't easy keeping it clean - food seems to fall on it - no matter how careful you are - I was not able to 'feel' when food hit it - unless I knew that I dropped it.
It _does_ tend to retain certain female odors... and you will need to keep it clean...
I guess the reason I grew it was to see if I could, and also I wanted to get my photo taken in one of those 'old west' places. I had several photos taken along the way, but not at the end.
I finally got tired of the dang thang and shaved it all off one Sunday morning.
Oh. It also adds about 20 years to how old you look. *shrug*
That's my personal experience... yours may differ. Good luck with the bet.

Jim, I was waiting for a guy to step in and set me strait. Good advise for certain. I know it will add some extra personal grooming, all long hair does. My daughter's hair, for instance once reached her butt. I cut it back 2 weeks ago to just above her shoulders (yes, I can cut hair too) and now it takes like 30 seconds to brush her hair. My wife and I decided with her being so active it was just not worth dealing with the extra cleaning and brushing needed to keep her hair long.
Will I eventually reach a point that I am sick of my beard being that long and take it back to its current length? Without a doubt, yes! But I will win that bet first!
Besides after cutting my wife and daughter's hair, I decided to go the opposite. Maybe I am just trying to invent things to do now that I am mostly a stay at home dad.

And as far as looking 20 years older... do you really think I would pass for 50? I'm 30 now, and I might pass for a 35 to 38 year old, but do you really think I would look 50????????

Yes. Growing a beard like you are wanting... adds 'years' to ones' look. Trust me on that one. I know. Of course, the cool thing is... when you shave it off (or trim it back), you will subtract those 20 years, and look much younger. *wide grin* Regards, Jim TX
