It looks to me more and more as if the Society was crazy to not just go ahead and pay the sales tax on the food and literature. After all, they had a captive audience to buy the stuff - they could have just marked up the price to compensate for the tax.

What they did instead was to shoot themselves in the foot with "voluntary contributions"...as well as the embarrassment of having to get into bed with the likes of Jimmy Swaggart to try the thing in court.

What a great messup under "divine guidance"!

James! New light has been shed on the matter! Pay Caesar's Things Unto Caesar' is what the Lord has now declared unto us the Faithful and Indiscreet Slaves and we will do this. And you brothers will do the paying!

I'll eat my hat if it doesn't turn out that way.

They is bloody clever in Brooklyn, you know!

I want the credit card with the Shulamite maiden on it. Second choice, the transfiguration scene on Mt. Hermon. Then again, the 10 plagues - a card for a year, a card for year. Or maybe Lot's wife being turned to salt, that should inspire the doubters...

You guys are so funny! But you could all be on to something here. We'll just have to be patient and wait til October unless someone gets info before then.

Juni ( of the wait and see class ) or if it takes too long (Dammit spill the beans NOW)

It's been said that the bros and sis's wont't like the forthcoming "big announcement", and if you are right, they are going to hate it. Not much hurts a jw more than a blow to the pocket

Ya know Linda, maybe they are going to add another weekly mtg. or another special day assembly? I always said that would cause quite a few more to walk. Juni let's talk about this over some drinks, o.k?

If you look at nearly every major change they've made in more than the past 10 years, you see dollar signs

behind it. Cutbacks in printing, laying off Bethelites, paperback Bibles, you name it.

They don't seem to care a whit about doctrine - as long as the average Witness will buy into any nonsense they print.

I don't think they are terribly worried about the internet or apostasy, either. Even the legal changes are just defenses

to preserve their cash from lawsuits or taxes.

If they did something like charging publishers for literature, the next question is how these broadgauge liars would

explain it. My guess? Talk about taxes and simplification and how the End is So Close, that they can't be bothered

to run a printing company anymore. The Witlesses would swallow this, hook, line and sinker.

Hey, if the Awake's end is in view, they would have to do something radical.

And yet they just invested tens of millions into state-of-the-art printing equipment and facilities. That's why it leads me to believe they will use the WTBTS of Penn. to print their crap using Bethel volunteers and charge for it, making a killing.

They paid for the new presses with cash they got from selling the Furman building. While brothers repeated this

jubillantly, they forgot that the Kingdom Ministry originally asked for 50 million in contributions to cover the cost.

Just another piece of evidence about contributions.....

Think about this: if they used an independent company to print their crap, it would be consistent with other legal

moves related to liability, such as dumping Bethelites and dumping the Bethel elder arrangement.

Every one of those "volunteers" or employees is a walking , driving, liability. More than this, worldly companies

can probably print their stuff as cheaply as they can do it. An independent printing company, contracted to print

their stuff need not be Watchtower employees or volunteers.

And here's one more thought: If they dumped printing completely and made it a 'pay as you go' arrangement,

where does that leave them? It leaves them sitting on a huge pile of real estate assets, secure

and unfettered by the "ministry" draining their cash away. They lose nearly all "employees" or "volunteers"

and can do with it whatever they wish. If paying off these lying bastards is the means by which the organization

loses its cultish grip on Witnesses, I would rejoice, all the same.

I wonder if this would insulate them against future blood transfusion suits? Maybe.....

Or, with all that publishing capacity they could print male and female nudie magazines for the non-Internet crowd, racing forms, and the Catholic Guardian newspaper.
