Should we not be happy, though, that the end has not yet come? During this decade of the 1990?s, restrictions on preaching the good news have been lifted, miraculously it would seem, in Eastern Europe, parts of Africa, and other lands. The apparent "delay" is allowing time for many more "sheep" to be gathered from these territories that have recently opened up...

Yup, yup, yup...this was my favorite thought for a long time. See, I'm not a bloodthirsty creep panting for Armageddy to arrive so I can witness Jebus massacre millions of people. I want everybody to become a dub, just like me, and be saved and live forebber in a Paradise earf. I am truly a lover of humanity and would not rejoice in anyone getting toasted ...just tho it may be on Jehoober's part to annihilate the buggers.

If only the damn internet was never invented....The 90's looked so promising.

Here's a site that talks about 1975 and the 40 years.

I believe chronological speculations, even if not officially endorsed by HQ, can persist among the laity. I remember well that in our congregation in the early '80s, there was talk about 1984 being "the end"...I remember believing for a while that I would not even finish my first year of high school because it was supposed to happen that fall.

Hey Honesty, my hat's off to you. (my big top hat) I don't know how you are able to tolerate all of that delusional psycho-babble on those pro-JW sites. I don't think I could get through reading that guff for 5 minutes without soiling my pants.

So, thank you for posting those quotes. It is mildly entertaining to read, in a morbid sort of way. It's sort of like watching video footage of a car accident. Arthur

Thankyou, Arthur. Pro-JW sites are more entertaining than Bill Murray and Eddie Murphy. And they only cost a liitle reality if you stay too long. Every once in awhile a JW will actually start reading posts by us Poztates that the Thought Police fail to catch. It's only a matter of time and they up here with us. Now ain't that SWEET.

Aha! Now I understand why they are out there wandering around with no idea what is going on (who is the King of the North? What does "this generation" mean?...etc.) Thanks!

And VM44, that is a great quote. I would love to see the entire dissertation.

Have you ever thought about the Isrealites beginning to enter the promised land and how they then had to turn back and wander in the wilderness for 40 years? Have you ever wondered if there is a modern day parallel in our time? Perhaps 75 was our approach to that promised land that we then had to turn back from and "wander"...

If you want to be a modern day Isrealite you have to get back into the fold with the shepards. Everybodys got to fight for their right to party. Maybe were like Moses and got to glimpse at the promises land from afar but never get to enter it.

    Nah, I dont think so.

This whole explanation just doesn't work on so many levels. The whole time I was growing up, I was told that Jehovah had set the date for Armageddon thousands of years ago. Why else would the dates matter? Like 1914 and 1975. Those dates were based on calculations from dates thousands of years in the past. We were to "keep in expectation of it", because "it would not be late". So why now, all of the sudden, would He change the date by 40 years? Have the anointed been unfaithful? Did the GB exept for 1 or 2 members (like Joshua and Caleb) rebel? What are they trying to say? I don't think this will ever come out as an official explanation from the GB. I could see them letting it go without saying anything about it. I would guess that anything that helps the R&F to cling to this "end of the world very soon" belief would be considered a good thing. But I don't see how they could endorse it.

"Finally, it would not be amiss to conclude that Biblical chronology is the play dough of millenarians. It can be stretched to fit whatever time-table is needed, or it can be reduced to a meaningless mass of dates and figures so that future predictions can be molded out of the original lump."

Didn't Ray Franz also put this quote somewhere in Crisis of Conscience?
